Claire Danes Covers Harper’s Bazaar February 2017

The lovely Homeland star – Claire Danes, is the cover girl for Harper’s Bazaar February 2017, and she looks stunning on both covers.

I am a huge Homeland fan. It is an adrenalin pumping series, and it keeps me at the edge of my seat all through, almost like 24. It is currently one of my favourite series. I have binged watched all the seasons on Netflix as soon as I discovered it. So I am happy to see season 6 is out. I can’t wait to watch that.

This Harper’s Bazaar cover is beautiful as usual. Claire Danes looks amazing on it. I love her hair and makeup (the red lippie always wins), and the outfit looks good too. I would love to read this issue. The interview sounds like a fab read.

Here are some excerpts from Danes’ interview with Harper’s Bazaar:

On Donald Trump and BREXIT

“I do think that England and America are so closely affiliated that it’s not terribly surprising there’s this parallel phenomenon occurring between our two countries,” Danes says. “The Brexit and Trump phenomena are informed by similar forces and social and economic movements. I think it’s been really stressful; it’s been really scary. I think we’re in a fever state and we’re all really anxious about how we’ve gotten here and why we’ve gotten here.”

Yes it is a very stressful time for many.

On her Carrie Mathison Character

“You know, I don’t think of her as female,” says Danes. “I’m playing a person. I’m playing a person. She’s just not defined at all by her sex. She is defined by her ideals, by her patriotism, by her commitment to righting wrongs, by her relationship to her mental condition [but] it’s just really beyond the more conventional stereotypes about what it is to be a woman in this world.”

I love Carrie Mathison! She is not a typical heroine, and that is what I love most about her.

Will UK Fashion Survive Brexit?

fashion-picture

The whole world held their breath as they waited for the results of the June 23, 2016 referendum. The outcome was a narrow win in favour of Britain leaving the EU with 52% against 48% of the total votes. This result brought a lot of concern to Britain, and the fashion industry was not left out of it.

The UK fashion industry has been a prime mover in the economy contributing £26billion in 2014 and £28billion in 2015. This industry was also responsible for employing nearly 900,000 workers for jobs spanning from manufacturing to retail.

Although the survey conducted by the British Fashion Council (BFC) states that 90% of the fashion designers planned to vote to remain in EU, the industry will now have to face what’s coming with Brexit.

But does UK fashion have the chance to survive Brexit? I believe there’s a good chance. Here are some of the reasons why I believe the UK fashion will survive Brexit –

  1. The devaluation of the Pound could lead to an increase in sales from foreign buyers

Since the final results of Brexit, the value of the pound took a nose dive. Although this caused a serious panic in the fashion industry, fashion designers saw an increase in the volume of their sales. The reason for this was that the drop in the value of the Pound made the fashion items in Britain appear cheaper to the buyers paying in Euro, Dollars, and other currencies. Thus, tourists in Britain found fashion items more affordable and this encouraged more of them to buy from the British market.

  1. Encouragement of growth in the fashion industry

As more foreign clients from different countries like France, Italy and Hong Kong among others, are buying more fashion items from Britain, there are signs of an increase in the growth of the fashion industry.  Some fashion designers are experiencing an increase in their businesses.

The price difference will definitely be a huge bonus for the British designers, since their price is comparatively more attractive than the prices in other European countries.

However, London will always be known as a fashion capital with talented designers. So even if there were an increase in the price of fashion items in Britain, this will not stop the fashion conscious from owning the latest trendy pieces.

  1. There’ll be a huge boom in online retail with a large foreign client base

With Brexit the common trend seems to be a shift to an increase in foreign patronage, so e-commerce stores that have a majority of clients from countries other than the UK will have a mega boost. Of course, price is the main determining factor in this case.

So will UK fashion survive Brexit? I’m pretty optimistic that the future of UK fashion is bright. And I predict a massive boom in the fashion industry.

My Thoughts on Brexit

brexit

I was quite vocal on social media (Twitter) about Brexit. I shared my thoughts with anyone who cared to read and it led to many people unfollowing me because I was not on the popular side of the fence. But I didn’t care. I had strong views that needed to be shared regardless of how unpopular it was. I am usually not interested in politics but I was very interested in Brexit because I knew the future of our children – the next generation, depends on how it swings.

I voted to leave in EU, and I am happy I did. I remember monitoring the results all through the night, only to fall asleep to dream about vote results, lol. It was a crazy period but I am glad it is all settling down now. I won’t go into why I decided to cast my vote to leave EU because I really do not feel like going into it or arguing with anyone on why I choose to believe what I believe. I don’t need to explain the reasons behind my votes and you shouldn’t either. I believe we all have the right to think for ourselves and follow our gut instincts. When it came to Brexit, it didn’t make sense in my head for the UK to leave the EU, with all the crazy/scary predictions around, but it made sense in my gut, and when it comes to my head or gut, I will always go with my gut instinct – it has never failed me.

The Cash Lady Infographic below features some of the worst Brexit predictions about possible financial outcomes of UK leaving the EU. I don’t see any of these happening by the way –

Some of these predictions are so funny but then again I am not surprised they are. I read even more shocking predictions before the results were announced. I hope these predictions don’t come through (I know they won’t), and I hope to see a stronger UK in a year’s time. I am keeping my eyes and ears on the Brexit news so I know what is going on. I can’t believe how adult I have become with my sudden interest in politics.

What do you think of these Brexit predictions? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below. Feel free to share this post on your social media channels as well.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day.
