Getting the Right Online Counselling

Christmas is around the corner and everyone is generally in a good mood. The beautiful decorations, gifts shopping and festivity play a huge part in putting a smile on everyone’s face. It really is the most wonderful time of the year for many. But there are some of us that struggle with life and its challenges, the struggle is even more severe during Christmas.

This maybe because the whole holiday season makes anyone who is struggling with depression, stress, mood swings and anxiety feel even more alone, more excluded. It can be hard work having a smile on the outside when you are crying on the inside. Which is why I am writing this post.

What is Online Counseling?

Before I go any further, I should explain what Online Counselling is all about. It is mental health counselling done through the Internet, via any device that goes online.

Getting the Right Online Counselling

When life gets busy, it can be tricky to find the time to take care of our mental health. Which is why I am very happy to know there are now online counsellors available to help those who need some it.

Having accessible and affordable online counselling with qualified psychologists, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, and board licensed professional counsellors would help many people get help from the comfort of their homes.

Here are ways you could get the right online counselling –

Decide on the type of counselling you are after

This is the first step in your online counselling journey. You have to decide on what type of counselling you are looking for. Are you after individual counselling for yourself, couple counselling for yourself and partner or child counselling for your dependant(s)?

Once you know what sort of help you are after, you can then proceed in finding the best in that field.

Make sure your online counsellor is qualified and experienced

Before you start your counselling, make sure the online counsellor is well qualified and experienced. This will ensure you are in the right hands. The last thing you need when dealing with mental health issues is to find that the counsellor is not as qualified or experienced as you would like. Reputable therapists will be registered with a professional organisations, so do your checks before you start.

Make sure you are happy with your therapist

You should ensure you are 100% happy with your therapist. If you are not unhappy with the therapist chosen for you, or you are uncomfortable with a certain therapist, you should ensure you swap for someone you can completely open up to. If the energy doesn’t feel right, just swap.

Ensure you can afford the service

Make sure you can afford the service. Read the terms and conditions, and any small print with pricing information. That way you know what to expect when the free trial (if any) is over, and you are sure of the prices going forward.

There is really no excuse to not get help if you are struggling with your mental health. Our mental health is as important as our physical health, and we should take care of it.

How to get your child to stop sucking fingers

My son sucked his fingers from when he was around 3 months old to 3 years. I ignored the habit for the first year as I knew it provided him some comfort. But when he turned 2, I wanted him to stop. I didn’t want him going to pre-school and still sucking his fingers. And after a routine dentist appointment, I knew I had to do something quickly about the finger sucking habit before it became a serious dental issue.

After a some research, I found a product that would help him stop sucking his fingers, but I needed to wait until he clocked 3 to try it on him. The product – Mavala Stop, helps discourage nail-biting in adults and in children above 3 years. I figured it would work for great for sucking as well, and it did.  My son LOVED sucking his fingers. He could do it all day if we let him. So I was quite impressed when Mavala Stop helped him break the habit within days.

For those who have never heard of this Mavala Stop, it is a nail-biting (and finger sucking) deterrent. It is a completely harmless product which has the appearance of clear enamel.

How to use

All I had to do was apply a coat of Mavala Stop every day over the entire nail surface. It has a distinct bitter taste which will discourage anyone from putting the fingers into the mouth. I tried it on my nails myself and couldn’t bear to have my fingers in my mouth.

I only had to apply this product on my son’s nails a handful of times to get him to stop sucking his fingers.  He completely stopped sucking his fingers in under a week.

I would recommend Mavala Stop to any parent dealing with fingers sucking or nail-biting. It also works great for adults. I know some people will shy away from getting their kids to stop sucking or biting by using a product like this, and I am not here to tell you how to raise your kids. But if you are in search of what to use to help your child break this habit, then you should try this product.

Keeping Energy Costs Down this Winter

This season is usually very expensive thanks to the holiday season and cold weather. We spend all our money on Christmas presents and decorations, warm clothing (at least for the kids), and on keeping our home warm. Prior to being a mummy, I had a full-time job in Manchester in one of the big energy companies. I was in the Home Move department, so I dealt with opening and closing accounts when customers move in and out of houses. It was interesting to see how much people spent on keeping their homes warm, and I had to learn various energy-saving tips, in order to be able to advice customers correctly.

It is important to ensure we keep our energy costs down, or we will be spending a fortune every year on energy. Now keeping the energy costs down does not necessarily mean we have to sit in a cold house. It means we have to be smart when it comes to using energy, so we don’t waste money.

Here are 5 energy-saving tips that you may find useful –

Ensure your Radiators, Boiler and Hot Water Tank are working properly

Make sure you have your Boiler and Hot Water Tank (if you have one) serviced annually. It is best to get the service done every year just the winter season. That way any faults will be picked by the Gas Safety Engineer. We get ours done for about £60 every year, and it is money well spent if you ask me. It just gives you that extra peace of mind that all your appliances are working as they should.

Our Gas Safety Engineer checks all the Radiators as well to be make sure they are all working properly. The last thing you would need is to have a breakdown issue during winter, with the freezing weather. We have had to buy some replacement parts over the years, which our engineer recommended we did to avoid a more serious issue. There are many companies you can find that offer these replacement parts, boilers and radiators when needed. You can check out this supplier for more info.

Fix your Deal

I always ensure we go for a fixed energy tariff. That way our prices are fixed for the duration of the contract. It has helped us save hundreds of pounds. We don’t have to deal with the fluctuation in prices. It is the oldest trick in the energy-saving book, but it is amazing how many people still do not do this.

Have a Timer

Our heating is timed to come on at certain intervals, and so is our hot water. That way we don’t have our heating on all day. It also helps keep our home warm but not too warm.

Wash at 30 degrees

I do all of my laundry at 30 degrees, and I have been doing so for many years now. Our clothes are washed properly and my energy bill is low. Washing at 30 degrees means I don’t waste hot water, because the more hot water I use, the more I have to heat up.

Switch it Off

If it is not in use, switch it off. Switch off radiators in rooms not in use, lights in empty rooms, and appliances not in use. Doing that can save you some money every year. Research has shown that switching off lights when you step out for a bit can save £10 a year.
