Topping Energy Levels this Spring

Spring is finally upon us and the warmer is getting warmer. I have been busy getting myself and my household ready for the new season. We have been busy spring cleaning our home, getting our garden spring-ready and also staying on top of our health. The spring/summer months are usually very busy. So I have been paying attention to my health and well-being in time for the season.

I have been taking some supplements from Professional Supplement Specialists – Biocareto help me get ready for the new season. With all the hustle and bustle, I needed a helping hand. So I was happy to get my hands on these supplements below.

I have been taking both food supplements for weeks now and I feel amazing. My energy levels have gone up and I have been walking with a spring in my step.

If you are looking for ways to top your energy levels this spring, here are tips from Chris Newbold, Head of Clinical Nutrition at BioCare –

Avoid caffeine after 2pm

This is a tricky one for me but I working on it. I have noticed, I sleep better if I do not take any caffeinated drink after 2pm. Caffeine is great for increasing alertness, so starting the day with a cup of cappuccino may help sharpen your mind. But It can cause sleep problems if taken after 2pm.

Give yourself a breakfast boost

Having a good breakfast is the best way to feel alert in the mornings. It’s important to go for healthier options, such as porridge and fruit, an omelette or wholemeal toast. Avoid fatty, deep-fried foods such as fry-ups, as these take a while for your body to digest and will leave you with less energy.

Get some sleep

This is an obvious tip but making of us do not get the right amount of sleep needed to function properly. A bad night’s sleep can leave you feeling drained for days, so make sure you’re well rested every night to feel reenergised the next day.

Add some protein

High quality protein will fill you up and give you all-day energy. So ensure you add some protein into your daily diet. There are many different options to choose from such as salmon and eggs for breakfast, followed by tuna or chicken for lunch and dinner.

Don’t ditch the complex carbs

Complex carbs such as brown rice, sweet potatoes, chickpeas, and wheat fuels the body and mind to help you make it through the day. These complex carbs are turned into glucose (blood sugar) in the body and are used as energy.

Ditch the drink before bed

Now this is a great tip as I believe many are not aware of it. Alcohol can trick you into thinking that you will sleep better as it can often make you feel drowsy and can make it easier to fall asleep. However, this can also affect your energy levels the next day, as you’re more likely to wake up and feel terrible. Drinking alcohol can dehydrate the body, so reach for a glass of water between alcoholic drinks to ease the hangover symptoms the next day.

How are you topping up your energy levels this spring? Are you taking any food supplements this season?

Why Holidays are Important

With our busy our lives are, holidays have become necessities. It is great to get out of the regular routine and do something elsewhere for a change. Holidays are important. They help us relax and unwind. Holidays also help us reconnect with loved ones. I enjoy going on vacations. If I could afford it, I would go somewhere special every month.

I have decided to do as much travel as I can this year and going forward. There are many cities/countries I am yet to visit to fully explore, and I really can’t wait to get on with it. I would love to see the world and appreciate all it has to offer.

Why Holidays are Important

I get to relax

Staying in hotels whenever I am on holiday is important to me. Even when I have a free place to stay with family/friends, I rather stay in a hotel. We work very hard on a good day, so when on holidays, we like to put my feet up and do nothing.

I don’t want to do anything while on holidays so the idea of room service, breakfast in bed, someone cleaning up after me (for a change) is right up my street. I would rather spend the money and unwind properly.

See the world

Going holiday means I get the opportunity to explore a different city. I want to see the world, and so far, I have seen quite a bit of it. I have visited Dubai, Oman, New York, Maryland, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Milan, Düsseldorf, Miami, Ireland and many more.

There are still a couple of countries on my travel list I need to see. I am slowly ticking them off one by one. The world is beauty and it would be a shame not to explore its beauty. I love every city I have seen for different reasons. Some are loved for their urban architecture, others for their party spirit, amazing food and great shops.

Create memories

I enjoy holidays because I get to create memories with my family. I take a lot of photos and make videos to keep these memories fresh in mind. Souvenirs are always bought as well. I never leave a city without a souvenir. It is my own way of taking something back home with me to remember the holiday.

Improve your health

Holidays help reduce our stress levels, which will in turn improve our health. Health is wealth, so taking time off to holiday is very important. Many of us are extremely busy juggling childcare, work, running a business and dealing with life in general. It can get so busy that all the hustle and bustle can begin to take a toll on your health. We need to remember to take things easy for the sake of our health.

Research has now shown that those who take less than one holiday every two years are more likely to suffer from depression and stress/burnout. It has also shown that those who fail to take annual holidays have a 21% higher risk of death from all causes and were 32 percent more likely to die of a heart attack.

I am not surprised by this results. I find that I laugh more while on holiday. Maybe it is the change of environment that amuses me or just a change of routine that makes me happy. Whatever it is, I like it. It keeps me in a good mood, even these Saturday quotes can’t put me in such a happy mood.

If all these does not make you book a holiday, I don’t know what will. I know many of us may struggle with going abroad on holiday, but you can holiday in your country or even in your city. There is a lot to see regardless of where you are based. You just need to find it.

It is also a good idea to schedule in some vacation time if you get the chance to go on a work trip or wedding abroad. Make the most of every new place you visit. Even if it means having an extra day or 2 set aside to be a tourist in the area, that will do you a whole lot of good. Whenever I go away for a wedding abroad, I make time to explore the city. I won’t want the only memory of my trip to be that of princess brides. That won’t be smart at all.

Why do you think holidays are important?

Psst, These Are The Things Employers Really Look For on Job Applications

When a job gets posted online, employers generally have to sift through hundreds sometimes even thousands of applications to whittle down to the perfect employee. If you want to stand a chance and make sure that you’re in the running (when there are so many others in the same boat) there are a few things you can do. Here’s what employers will be looking for when searching through job applications.

A Good Cover Letter

A good cover letter will sum up why you’re right for the position. Be sure to highlight your skills and explain why you’re suited to the role, but don’t ramble. In many cases, a good cover letter could make the employer taking a closer look at your CV. Tailor each cover letter you send for each job. Look through the application to find out what skills they’re looking for, and be sure to mention these with your relevant experience.

Good Education

Education really is is one of the best ways you can improve your career prospects. Between you and a similar candidate, an employer will almost always choose the one with the better education. Even if you didn’t do the best in school, these days there are online college courses you can do which will show you’re dedicated to getting the job you want. Achieving a qualification this way can also show that you’re focused, motivated and able to see something through to the end. You could choose a course specifically for the job you want. For example an online master of public safety for a public safety role. Or you could do a broader course. Take psychology, the skills learned here would be useful for many kinds of jobs.

Voluntary Work

Volunteering is another way to show that you’re serious about getting experience in the job you want. And that you’re prepared to work hard without money being a motivator. It shows that you take your career seriously and this can be very appealing to employers. There are lots of ways you can get experience through volunteering. For example if you wanted to work in mental health you could volunteer with a hospital or a mental health charity. Volunteering abroad always looks impressive too, and shows you have taken time out of your own life to go and help others. It’s not always the stuff directly relating to the career that will help you to stand out.

Interesting Hobbies

With that being said, another thing that will help you to stand out which isn’t career related is your hobbies. Most people put down things like ‘going to the gym’ and ‘socialising’ which is fair enough, but certainly won’t help you stand out from the crowd. Don’t lie here, instead use it as an excuse to go and find some interesting and exciting hobbies. This can help to show employers a bit about your personality and whether you would be a good fit for the company. For example, social hobbies show you work well with other people. Technical hobbies like crafts show that you’re creative and good with manual tasks.

When last did you submit a job application? How do you find the whole job application process?
