Fashion Tips from Fashion Icon – Iris Apfel

Here are three of my favourite fashion tips from Iris Apfel:

Dress to please yourself

This is a great tip. Many times we are carried away with the styles in vogue, that we forget to dress for ourselves and not for social media or the public. It is nice to know what styles are trending just incase you like them, but the first thing to have in mind when playing dress up is to dress to please yourself. That way you will step out feeling confident and comfortable.

Explore fashion

This is another fab tip. To create your own signature look, you need to explore what is out there. I love exploring fashion by trying new styles and pieces to see how they fit into my personal style. As a fashion blogger, it also allows me to try out new trends. Exploring fashion is a great way to discover likes and dislikes.

Go for signature pieces

Iris Apfel is known as the Queen of Accessories, and you just need to Google her to find out why. This fashion icon wears a lot of accessories and she makes them work. I would love to see her accessories collection. I bet she has loads.

When it comes to investing in my wardrobe, I spend a little more on signature pieces that would send the test of time. I like to spend a little on accessories, especially hand bags. Going for signature pieces allow you create the perfect capsule wardrobe.

Here is me wishing Iris Apfel a fantastic birthday for tomorrow. 100 years on this planet is something and she looks like simply gorgeous. Happy birthday to the Queen of Accessories.

It can be tricky to stay on top of our feelings when drama online and you have to work online, but there are many ways to stay relaxed. How to relax in the midst of chaos

Focus on what elevates

I scroll past different types of news online and I ignore majority of them. News is not something I seek out or watch, so I tend to not see majority of them. I rather focus on what elevates me then dwell on what doesn’t. It is important to stay aware of what is going on but it id important you know the difference between staying aware of what is happening and dwelling on what is happening. The former is what you need to do.

Have a routine

It is really important to have a daily routine that works for your family. That way you know what needs to be done and you can stay on top of your day and not get carried away with the confusion and chaos. You can create a flexible routine that allows you change things around during the day but still gives you that safety net as well. I find that my days are a lot better when I stick to my routine.

Eat healthy foods

This tip is a big one. You are what you consume, and this is why you need to ensure you are eating healthy to stay healthy. I have been a Vegetarian for over a year now and it has completely changed my life. Ensure you only eat healthy foods to keep your body in good shape.

Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep is really important especially now. The power of a good night sleep can never be overemphasised. We all need to get enough sleep to keep our body and mind healthy. Try going to bed an hour early everyday for a week and see how you feel.

Worry less

Many of us spend time worrying about things we have no business worrying about. It is important to worry less in order to stay healthy and happy. Worry leads to more stress, and that is really the last thing many of us need. Try as much as possible to take your mind off whatever you may be worrying about and spend time doing what you enjoy.

Listen to music

Good music heals the soul and that is one of the reasons why I ensure I listen to good music everyday. Some of my favourite artistes are Cece Winans, Enya, William McDowell, Adele, Mercy Chinwo and many more.

Blogging Tip: Take time off

Hey below bloggers! I have not written a blogging tip post in a bit. A lot of juggling has been going on behind the scenes for me, but I am working on a new blogging routine and it looks like I am settling into a new way of running Fashion and Style Police. So do expect regular blog posts from now on. The plan is to go back to blogging more often and so far my new blogging schedule is working really well.

This brings me to the theme of today’s post. I have been blogging for almost 9 years now, and it has been a learning journey all the way. I have gone from blogging a few times a week, to blogging everyday and back again. The learning experience is forever ongoing. Blogging is not something to learn and you stop learning. The big wide web keeps changing and so does your blog, which means forever twerking, learning and relearning things to keep your blog active.

Blogging Tip: Take time off

One thing I have had to learn this past year is that it is ok to take time off. Like most things in life, taking time off is important to keep your ideas fresh and to stay healthy mentally and physically. Being self employed and relying heavily on my blog income made me struggle with taking time off. I must confess, I used to panic whenever I took a couple of days off, but I am pleased to say that is no longer the case.

Since the start of the pandemic, I take as many days off as required and I feel no panic or guilt. The irony of it all is that my views have increased massively even though I now blog less. The panic and fear were just the ego part of me trying to control everything which usually leads to less productivity.

Days off are important for any job especially when you are self employed and running your own business. You are your blog and you cannot afford to break down, and this is why taking time off is important.

The only blogging tip I have for you is to take a break every now and again, so you can come back ready buzzing with fresh ideas that create amazing blog posts. Also, remember to feel no guilt or fear when you do this. Your blog will be fine, your views will rise and your blog readers will understand. You are more than your blog. Stay safe.
