Stick to a strong niche

Setting up your new blog as a ‘lifestyle blog’ may not be a good idea. It’s always best to start off with a strong, well-developed niche like fashion, beauty, parenting, travel, and the likes, and then evolve into a more lifestyle theme if that is what you want. Starting off as a lifestyle blog from the start may be too generic and this can slow down the growth of your blog. So pick a strong theme and grow off the back of it.

Stay active on social media

When I first started blogging, I made my blog had a page on every major social media platform, and this helped jumpstart my blog because it brought in traffic. Staying active on social media is a great way to jumpstart your blog. You can always schedule tweets and social media posts in advance, that way you don’t have huge gaps in between posts.

Create quality content

At the end of the day, your blog content would speak for itself, and this why creating quality content is a no-brainer. You want to retain the traffic you are attracting, and quality content in a strong niche would do just that.

Research similar blogs

Drawing inspiration from similar blogs is another great way to jumpstart your new blog. Spamming the comment section is never a great idea, and neither is copying. Researching similar blogs allows you to see how other bloggers run their blog. It also allows you to discover what works and what doesn’t.

Invest in a simple blog design

When it comes to blog designs, you want a simple design that is user-friendly and easy to read. The less ads, the better, and don’t go for designs that are too busy or overly complicated. Less is more with blog designs. You want your readers to enjoy the look and feel of your blog, so they stay longer on it and return.

Good luck with your new blog. Leave me a comment, so I can check yours out.

Lifestyle tips for Glowing Skin

Finding the right skincare can feel like a game in a way. As we age, our skin changes, and skincare products that used to work so well may no longer be the right fit. To find the  right skincare products, you may have to test a good few. I have played around with a few skincare brands in the last few years. Some have been a better fit than others but what I noticed with my skin was, at first the new skincare products would work amazingly well, at least for the first couple of weeks, and then they would stop being as effective.

When it comes to lifestyle changes to make for glowing skin, I have had to learn when it comes to skincare, and I am still learning, but I have been able to pick up some up great lifestyle tips for glowing skin in my quest. Here are three of my favourite skincare tips –

Use a gentle facial cleanser twice a day

Washing your face twice a day with a gentle facial cleanser is the first step in any skincare routine. You want to pick the right facial cleanser for your skin type so it doesn’t dry out your face or cause any breakouts. I have used a few cleansers and I have found that the more gentle the facial cleanser, the better it is for my skin. Vegan formulas are the only skincare products I use, so the gentle facial cleanser has to be Vegan friendly for me to try it.

Exfoliate at least once a week

When it comes to exfoliating, I usually aim for once a week. I know many beauty pros recommend exfoliating three times or more a week, but that sounds like a lot. My skin is quite sensitive and can be prone to breakouts sometimes, so I am always really careful with skincare treatments. Exfoliating more than once may be right for your skin but just be careful not to over exfoliate so as not to damage your natural skin barrier.

Use a toner twice a day

Using a toner every time you cleanse is important. Toners keep the skin hydrated and also aid the absorption of facial creams, moisturisers and serums. As always, I opt for toners with Vegan formula. I have recently discovered some amazing Vegan skncare products, and I will be sharing my thoughts on them soon.

Do you have any Vegan skincare brands you are into?

Is Fashion Blogging Still Profitable?

Fashion blogging was a big deal back in the day. I remember scrolling multiple fashion blogs many years ago, soaking in all the stylish content.  I enjoyed reading blogs, especially those with fashion and style content. Some of my favs were Fashion Bomb Daily, She Wears Fashion, The Blonde Salad, and the likes. It was always interesting to see what these style bloggers, and which style pieces and accessories were trending. My interests have changed in the last few years. I have not visited any of these fashion sites in more than 5 years. To be honest, I am not even sure if some of these blogs still exist.

Having said that, I still love fashion but I am not as into it as I was before. I still love reading, but I now only read non-fiction books. Times have changed and so has my taste, and I am sure the same can be said for many. Life would be so dull if we all stayed the same….

Is Fashion Blogging Still Profitable?

Many wonder if fashion blogging is still profitable and my I think it is. It all depends on how passionate you are about creating regular stylish content, and what you perceive as profitable. What Fashion Blogger A may call good income, may be peanuts to Fashion Blogger B. What may be considered profitable for one may not work for another. I know many fashion bloggers have tweaked their own blogs so they can share other types of content, and I also know many who have stopped blogging altogether.

When I started Fashion and Style Police in 2012, it was meant to be a creative outlet for my stylish ideas. I was on a very different path then and I truly enjoyed fashion blogging. Over the years, the blog name stayed but the blog evolved to be more of a lifestyle blog, and it started to generate regular income and I have discovered that the evergreen content keep generating income.

Show me the money

Fashion blogging is still profitable. Many fashion bloggers are full-time bloggers with steady income coming in, so it is doable but it’s a lot. You have to be passionate about your blog and be creative enough to create regular blog posts to attract sponsorship from brands. Also, you have to utilise social media to spread the word and create income. Many bloggers make more money from social media ads than from their own blogs, so having a strong social media presence is crucial if you are looking to make money as a blogger.

Having said, full-time blogging is not for everyone. I was a full-time blogger for many years and I can say I am in a much better place. My blog is now a side gig and I have a full-time j0b, which provides the much needed stability. I won’t change my full-time blogging years for anything though. I learnt a lot about being self-employed and being my own boss. It gave me a lot of freedom for when I needed it the most and I picked up a lot of life lessons on the way. Fashion blogging is profitable and highly recommend for those who have it in them.
