Fashion – What I Wore on my Birthday

Hey fashion lovers! I finally got around to publishing my birthday outfit post. Whoop Whoop! For those who do not know, it was my birthday a few days ago. I turned 31 and I posed for some outfit photos. As a fashion blogger, I was planning to go all out on my birthday, and rock a super glam outfit, but then life happened and I couldn’t.

Like I mentioned in previous posts, I was not feeling well for the whole of last week. I was battling a terrible cold and was too drained to be in the party mood. So I didn’t really make any birthday plans. Which means no birthday outfit was decided until the last minute. I decided to style up some of my birthday gifts, and I am happy I did just that. It made my day even more special.

Everything I had on except the sleeveless blazer and bag, was a birthday present. I receive a couple gifts from my loved ones a few days to my birthday, so I decided to style them together for my big day. The look worked so well. I felt super comfy and warm, which was good as it was a very cold day.

I remember growing up as kid, birthdays was a big deal for me, and it still is. The whole idea of having my own special day, and being bombarded with birthday wishes and presents always puts a smile on my face. And I am certain it is the same for many. Birthdays are still a big deal for me, even as an adult. I appreciate every new year (even though I am growing older 😃) and what each year brings to me.

5 Fashion Mistakes you must avoid in 2017

Hey fashion lovers! Since we are still fresh in the new year, I thought we should chat about fashion mistakes to avoid this 2017. Because even the best and the most stylish fashionistas can make poor style choices sometimes.

Wrong Sizing

So many реорlе get their sizing so wrоng. You need to ensure you buy the right size of сlоthing. If thе сlоthing doesn’t fit, don’t buy it. And if you have bought it already, don’t wear it.

If уоu аrе losing weight, make ѕurе you buу сlоthеѕ thаt fit your new size or hold off shopping until you are done with the weight loss. When I am in between sizes, or trying to lose weight, I like to shop for dresses online, simply because I get better bargains and options, and dresses are easier to rock when I am in between sizes. Whеn buуing clothes, mаkе ѕurе you сhесk the ѕizing and ensure you get your right size for the store. Sizes mean different things in different stores and countries.

Wrinkled Clothes

You should never step out of your house lооking wrinkled! I hate ironing but I hate looking wrinkled a lot more, so I make sure my clothes are well ironed.

Hеrе iѕ a ԛuiсk tiр: if уоu want to dесrеаѕе the timе it tаkеѕ to irоn уоur сlоthеѕ, hang thеm uр оnсе уоu hаvе worn them, so they are not wrinkled when next you need to wear them.

Tоo Many Cоlоurѕ

Wеаring toо mаnу different colours will ruin your overall look. When I say too many, I mean more than 3 colours. Kеер уоur colouring ѕimрle by sticking to at least 1 bright colour, and 2 minimal colours at the most, except you are going for a colour blocking look.

Viѕiblе Pаntу and Brа Linе

Contrary to рорulаr bеliеf, it iѕ not ѕеxу оr attractive tо hаvе a viѕiblе panty or bra linе. Always wear lingеriе thаt ѕuits what you have on.

Choosing Wrong Designs

Each уеаr, fashion designers bombard us with new pieces and accessories in various designs. However many оf the high fаѕhiоn designs do not ѕuit thе regular wоmеn. Always opt for designs that suit your body shape and personality.

We all know that Mаxi drеѕѕеѕ wеrе оnсе a trend, but they аrе also now a wаrdrоbе ѕtарlе, and they аrе hеrе tо ѕtау. Every wardrobe should have a few maxi dresses. They are effortless, vеrѕаtilе аnd suits аll ѕhареѕ and ѕizеѕ, with no effort rеԛuirеd at all! It is also very easy to shop for dresses online, which is an added plus for me, you all know how much I love my online shopping, I would be lost without it.

Can you relate with any of these fashion mistakes? Which fashion mistake will you be avoiding this 2017?

Style Icon: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This style icon is probably someone you know nothing about, but you should. She is the Truth…..

The beautiful and talented, award-winning Nigerian novelist, and Beyoncé’s muse behind ‘Run the World’ lyrics; Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is my style icon. I love everything this woman represents. She is beauty and brains, she was 26 when she published her first novel, Purple Hibiscus, which was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction and won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has gone on to write many other successful books like Half of a Yellow Sun, a book set during the Biafran conflict in Nigeria, a decade before she was born – and Americanah, my personal favourite, a modern love story set between America and Nigeria.

You can clearly see this style icon is beauty and brains, which is quite rare these days, and I love that about her. She is like a breath of fresh air, and her style game is on point as well. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie rocks some of the most beautiful African pieces I have ever seen. She designs most of her clothes. A lover of bold prints and native Ankara designs, this style queen balances African prints and modern chic like a boss. She inspires me a lot.

Chimamanda once wrote an article – Why can’t a smart woman love fashion, and she kind of read my mind with all the fashion lovers cannot be feminist nonsense I read around on the web. I really think the so-called feminist that refuse to like fashion, and believe women should go about looking and feeling unattractive to be equal to men, should take a moment and read her well written article, they have no excuse to be so ignorant really.

Here is a quote from the article below:

I had learned a lesson about Western culture: Women who wanted to be taken seriously were supposed to substantiate their seriousness with a studied indifference to appearance. For serious women writers in particular, it was better not to dress well at all, and if you did, then it was best to pretend that you had not put much thought into it. If you spoke of fashion, it had to be either with apology or with the slightest of sneers. The further your choices were from the mainstream, the better. The only circumstance under which caring about clothes was acceptable was when making a statement, creating an image of some sort to be edgy, eclectic, counterculture. It could not merely be about taking pleasure in clothes.

What do you think of this style icon?
