What Marie Kondo Taught Me

*Collaborative post.

I finally decided to binge watch Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix the other day and I am glad I did. At first, I didn’t want to watch the Netflix original series because I thought it wasn’t for me. But I am always interested in home decor and renovation series, so I decided to give it a go. I picked a lot of tips from Marie Kondo’s series. I think she is a very smart interior decorator. She definitely knows what she is talking about and some of her tips have been tried and tested by me.

Clutter has no space in our hone. It is something I have always been on top of because I don’t do well with clutter or mess. Which is why our house is always neat and organised. I found some of the couples very interesting. The amount of items they had and their lifestyle was interesting to watch because I couldn’t relate or understand many of them. But I took some organising tips away from the series and I have implemented them into my life and they work great. Here they are –

Make use of boxes

I never knew how useful boxes could be in a drawer/wardrobe. Boxes change the whole look of a space and helps in maximising the space as much as possible. I am looking forward to getting some boxes for the bathroom storage when we get an additional one. We need some extra storage in our bathroom, thanks to the many hair and skincare products I have. If I had my way I would get rid of the entire bathroom and change the decor. The carpets we have in there would be out of the window if I had my way. I would replace them with karndean vinyl flooring for an authentic and. durable wood look.

Keep bags inside each other

I have tested this tip and it works! I now put my bags inside each other, 1 in each bag, with the handles out so I can view (and remember ) them easily. It helps maximise space, and the technique keeps your bags organised. You should try it.

Thank things you no longer need

Many of us take what we have for granted, forgetting that many people go without everyday. Which is why I love the whole idea of thanking things that no longer serve us, and I will be doing more of that going forward. I also like the fact that she greets the house before she starts the decluttering process with the family. That makes a whole lot of sense to me for a weird reason.

I have seen all the 8 episodes of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and I am looking forward to the second season. I hope Netflix brings that  this second season back soon. The fact that Marie Kondo spoke Japanese all through was also a good idea. I wasn’t expecting that but it felt more real with her having a translator there.

Have you seen this Marie Kondo series? What are your thoughts?

Spending time on self-care this year

*PR sample.

The year 2019 is going to be a very different year for me. I decided on the first day of the year to make it a year to remember for all the right reasons, and I am going to make sure that happens. This year, I am paying attention to my general health, both mental and physical. Self-care is the theme of the year for me, and I am going to be loving on myself in order to be the best I can be.

Apart from eating and drinking right, reading as many books as possible, spending time relaxing and doing nothing as often as possible, and just doing what I want on some days, I am also focusing on my fitness life and trying my hands on meditating. Our self-care is so important.

Fitness

Apart from my general workout routine from home (thank you YouTube), I will be focusing heavily on my tummy area. I want it flatter and firmer, so I have started some workout exercises to achieve that. I have been at it for sometime already, and I am hoping to start to seeing big results soon. The picture I have in my head is that of a very flat and firm tummy. I want the abs I didn’t even have pre babies, and I know I can get there if I put in the work. I am looking into Tricycles from Jorvik to help me stay fit as well. Cycling is an excellent way to keep those legs moving.

While I am working on the having the perfect abs, I have MAGIC Body Fashion Tummy Squeezer Lace to help flatten my tummy area. The amazing panties help slim the tummy area within seconds. I love the fact that it is totally invisible underneath the clothing. You won’t know I was wearing one, if I didn’t tell you. It is also very comfortable unlike other shape wear clothing. You can grab this in Black, Rose and Latte colours for £26.50.

Meditation

I started meditating with the help on a cool app – Headspace on my iPhone. Meditation is always something I have wanted to try but didn’t know how to go about it. But thanks to Headspace, it has been an easy ride. I am new to meditating, so I am only doing it for 3 mins at a time, morning and night. So far, I am loving it. It makes me feel lighter, clear my head and frees my mind. Which is just what I need to stay productive. I am looking forward to reaping all the benefits of meditating. I have heard there are numerous, and can’t wait to experience them all.

The mind is a powerful thing and it is shocking how many of us neglect ours but pay attention to everything else. Most of us usually neglect our mind until it is too late, and we are dealing with all sorts of mental health issues. I am not making that mistake. I am feeding my body, mind and soul some TLC this year and going forward.

Any specific plans for self-care this year? Do you meditate? What has your experience been like?

How I am making the most of my Pinterest page

Pinterest has been around for many years. I have had an account on there for as long as I can remember but it is only until recently, that I have started paying more attention to my pins. Before I go on, I must confess, Pinterest was one of those social media platforms that confused the hell out of me. I never really understood it or what to do with it, but I have learnt a lot over the years, and still learning. Like every other social media platform, Pinterest is always evolving, and I am slowly starting to understand it all.

I am slowly growing my Pinterest following, with the number currently just under 500. That number doubled in the last few weeks, so I know the extra attention I am giving my boards is working. But I am more impressed with my monthly views currently at 208,800 and my monthly engaged number at 15,900. I have also noticed a spike in the number of my blog views from Pinterest, and I want to see those numbers increase some more in the next few weeks. Every extra blog traffic is good, and Pinterest is now my number 1 social media referral for Fashion and Style Police.

How I am making the most of my Pinterest page

Many bloggers have written so many articles on how to grow your Pinterest page, and I am sure you would have read a few of them already. Blogger – Forever Amber is a lover of Pinterest, and has raved about it many times. I know I have read loads and I never really understood the tips and how they worked. So I pretty much gave up on Pinterest. If you ask me what my tip is for making the most of my Pinterest page, the truth is I have none. But I always made sure I pinned every new post on the relevant boards.

I also took some time every week to go through my feed to pin images I liked on my boards. I also pinned images with posts I wanted to read at a later date. So I guess my strategy is consistency. Doing the same thing over and over again. I am happy to see my hardworking is finally paying off on Pinterest, and I am now determined to put in extra time to grow my Pinterest following and increase my engagement and viewers.

The power of social media

Social media is so very important. Any serious business owner knows the importance of having a strong social media presence. You would be living in a hole if you don’t know the power of social media. One of my many goals this 2019 is to grow my social media following. Now that I have seen the power of Pinterest, I now know why most of the American bloggers I know rave about it.
