Free Summer Activities for Kids

School is shutting for summer in about 4 weeks, so it makes sense to have plans for the 6 weeks summer break. Money can be tight for many of us and let’s face, we all need free summer activities to keep the kids busy, regardless of how rich we may be. You can’t be on a beach or in a theme park every day for 6 weeks, so you have to think ahead of how to keep the little ones engaged.

I have lots planned for the summer holidays. As a work from home mum, working at home with the kids can be hard.  I will be planning lots of different activities and be fitting in work around our schedule, so everyone is happy.

Here are some free summer activities for kids we will be making the most of –

Go for walks

We love to go for walks. The kids enjoy being outdoors so we will be going for lots of long walks in our area.  There is something so refreshing about being outdoors especially when the weather is nice. It is a good way to get those steps in and stay fit. Plus, fresh air and sunshine does wonders for our state of mind so make the most of this free activity with the kids this summer.

Make the most of your garden space

Now I know I am so guilty of not making the most of our garden. We don’t use our garden as much as we should and that is going to change this summer. I am going to get fun stuff for the kids to play with and make the garden as child-friendly as possible. It is amazing how running around and playing can keep the kids so busy for hours.

Riding bicycles and scooters

We have spots in our estate where kids can ride their scooters and bicycles safely away from the road and cars. We are going to be visiting the spot quite regularly. I like being able to sit on a bench and watch the kids ride safely. It is another exciting activity for them to do outside the house, and it is free once you have the bike/scooter and safely accessories!

Visit your local playground

I will be visiting the local playground with the kids. Luckily for us, it is not far away from where we live, so we will be making the most of it. The kids enjoying playing on the slides, swings and the other rides. We can easily spend an hour there. A good spot to spend an afternoon.

Baking

For days when the weather is not playing nice, we will be baking indoors. The twins are very into baking now and are interested in the whole process. So, we will be doing a lot of baking this summer. It is a fun educative activity for the whole family.

Camping in the garden

Camping in the garden is on our list this summer. It is something we have never done but want to do, and I think the right time is the summer. We will be getting a tiny camping tent and all the necessary camping gear to make it as much fun as possible.

These are just some examples of free summer activities we will be doing this summer holiday. Of course, we will be doing other paid activities like soft play, theme park, visiting a farm, and the likes. But more of free activities, so a lot of thinking outside the box.

Shopping for skirts and dresses this summer

Summer fashion features a lot of skirts and dresses because they are dead comfy. With the heat wave, the last thing I want to have on is a pair of jeans. You will easily catch me rocking skirts and dresses because they are easiest pieces to wear and style in summer. It is important to dress for your shape. I always have my body shape in mind when shopping for clothing and accessories. As a petite lady, the last thing I need is for clothing to swallow my little frame up! Which is why I go shopping for skirts and dresses that would work with my body shape.

The beauty about skirts and dresses is that they usually tend to suit most body shapes, depending on the style you opt for. If you plan on doing some summer shopping this season, and you have skirts and dresses on your shopping list, here are some tips you may find useful.

Get pretty summer dresses

Shop around for summer dresses that can be styled for daytime and nighttime. Floral is timeless, so opt for floral dresses if possible.

Go for pieces that show off your best parts

If you have amazing long legs, go for mini dresses that would show they off. Buying dresses with classic lines is a smart way to go about this. If you are after showing off some cleavage and shoulders, go for halter-neck dresses, as they would do the work. It is important to buy clothing that will always show your case your best features.

Remember the shirt dress

Having a shirt dress is an essential this summer. I have quite a few in my wardrobe now and I love them. They are dead easy to style and are very comfy to wear this summer. I like the fact that they are multi-tasking pieces. They can be work from season to season with different accessories. They are smart enough to be worn to work and laidback enough for weekends and vacations. I think shirt dresses are a great wardrobe investment. The trick for the shirt dress is to keep it fitted and in subtle colours.

Don’t forget the skirts

I like having skirts in my wardrobe. I wear them a lot in the summer months. The pencil skirt is my favourite. I think it suits my bodyshape so I always go for skirts in that shape. Skirts are very easy to style up and down. A simple top/shirt can be worn with a skirt for a daytime look, and a shimmery sleeveless top for a nighttime look.

How is your summer wardrobe looking? Are you a fan of skirts and dresses in the summer months?

Summer is here, is your wardrobe ready?

As the snow thaws and everyone begins to look toward summer, it’s easy to forget about the contents of one’s closet. For months now you’ve been bundled up against the elements, layering clothes and longing for the sun. You’re tired of the cold months stretching on seemingly without end, and now that the end is finally in sight it’s easy to get excited. Summer time is always a fun time.

As you plan summer trips and outdoor excursions, don’t forget that you need to dress for the weather. Flowing fabrics, shorter hemlines and colourful prints are hitting the shops as the last of the frost disappears and the sun starts to stay out longer.

Summer time is a great excuse to go shopping and pick up summer clothes in new and updated prints, colors and materials. Keep yourself cool and comfortable this summer with these essential summer staples.

Don’t skip on the white

White clothes are immensely popular in the summer, as they keep you cool while offering a lot of versatility. White tanks and tees, for example, pair very well with just about any skirt, short or pant in your closet.

Swap out your boots for some sweet sandals

Sweaty feet are no fun, so cramming your tootsies into a stifling pair of boots all summer long might have you feeling a bit grouchy. Opt instead for a pair of sandalsto suit your style. Straps, heels, clasps and colorful accents make it easy to find a pair (or three) that you’ll adore all summer long.

Replace your miniskirts with midi skirts

There is certainly a time and place for leg-baring minis, but midi skirts offer a bit more coverage that makes them a perfect summer staple for any occasion. From the boardroom to brunch and beyond, midi skirts will keep you cool and confident as you strut around in effortless style.

Don’t ditch the denim

Denim shortshave been parts of the iconic summer look for decades because they are ultra-comfortable and can be dressed up or down to suit your style needs. A white tee on top makes for a great casual look, while a button-up blouse can dial the style up a notch for those fun summer outings with friends.

Combine comfort and style with a maxi dress

Tight clothes aren’t the most comfortable on the hottest days of the year. A maxi dress offers you salvation from the discomfort with all of the coverage that you need to feel confident wherever you go. Long, flowing materials keep things breezy in a slew of colors and patterns that are sure to please.

Upgrade your sunglass game

The perfect pair of shades is the best and easiest way to finish off any summer look. Practicality and style mesh effortlessly in some beautiful sunglass frames these days, so there’s a frame for every day of the week!

Add accessories

Accessories like rings and bracelets are very important to turn on the style. A pave diamond ring on your finger can enhance the beauty of your well-manicured hand. A necklace will make your neck strikingly beautiful. So choose your accessories properly.

Summer is all about comfort, but it’s easier than ever before to stay comfy while rocking impeccable, effortless style!
