When Life Gives you Lemons

When life gives you lemon, make lemonade! That has been one of my mottos for as long as I can remember now, and it resonated with me so much in the last few days.

These last few days have been very hard. But I am a born fighter, it is in my DNA, so I usually get right back to business as usual, as soon as I can.

But I must confess, these last couple of days have been so draining. I have been drained emotionally and physically, which is why I have been unable to write as much I use to, which is very unlike me. I was still writing every day with newborn twins, and I thought nothing else could be as hard as that, but I was so wrong! But hey, when life gives you lemon, you make lemonade right?

Without going into too much detail, last week was full of stress from start to finish. From dealing with the most annoying blogger ever in my outreach world, to chasing late payments, and to dealing with even more stress at home with the kiddies. I started the week stressed and I ended it even more stressed.

But I am here! I have bounced back from last week’s stress, and gradually going back to my usual work routine and feeling myself again.

So how exactly did I make lemonade out of the lemons life gave me? Well, one way is in my outlook of life. These ups and downs help me appreciate life and the little things like waking up everyday and feeling well enough to get out of bed and jump in the shower. It is amazing how many of us take these things for granted, thinking it is our birthright!

This stressful time also made me trust my intuition even more because I kind of daydreamed it all coming, only for it to start happening, if that makes sense.

This experience has made me trust my instincts and listen to that inner voice a lot more. They are yet to fail me.

Another thing I have learnt is to just sit back and relax when life becomes crazy, which is what I did.  If we recharged ourselves as often as we recharged our gadgets, we won’t have a problem. I have learnt to just go with the flow, and take things easy.

Thanks for reading.

Creative Writing Course NCC Home Learning

I am always eager to learn something new. Knowledge is never too much, so I make a conscious effort to learn something new each day. I recently had the opportunity to study a Creative Writing Course with NCC Home Learning, and I am loving it so far.

NCC Home Learning has over 350 distance learning courses available to study from home, at your own pace and time, which is great! I only just started my Creative Writing Course, I completed the first module – Creative writing and you, and I know for a fact that I am going to gain a lot from this course.

This first module had me searching myself and my love for writing. It made me think of the reasons why I write, when I discovered my love for writing, when and where I like to write, and my writing journey in general.

I discovered my love for reading and writing before my tenth birthday. I discovered I was more into reading and writing than my peers, and that I truly enjoyed it. I wrote a bit of that in my book – How to Cash In as a Blogger, so go have a read if you have not done so already.

I am interested in this creative writing course because I would want to improve my writing, I believe there is always room for improvement, even if you are J. K. Rowling. I would also love to discover new writing techniques and ideas, and explore other writing genres. I am currently only interested in reading and writing non-fiction, but back in the day, I was only interested in fiction books, I remember being so into romance novels when I was younger, and I even wrote a few short stories myself. But now, I have lost all interest in reading and writing fiction, which I find so weird, so I am hoping this online course would spark my interest in the fiction genre again.

I will be keeping you all updated on my progress, and I will be writing a more in-depth review once I am done with the course in the next few months. Wish me luck. Thanks for stopping by.

A Good Writer is a Good Reader

Being a good writer means you are a good reader. You have to be able to read to write. Reading opens doors, horizons and develops the mind.

Don’t feel bad if you’ve not picked up a book or novel in the last few month, knowledge-packed blog posts make excellent reads too! The idea is to read something of quality everyday. And thanks to the E-readers, reading o the go has never been so easy. I can think of a book, and start reading it in few seconds if I like.

Reading does a lot to improve our writing, here are 4 significant ways it does that –

  1. Reading enhances your imagination

Reading challenges you to think about different possibilities. It pushes you to begin to explore taking your writing to amazing depths and perspectives.

  1. Reading gives you the facts upon which to base your writing

No matter what you write you need to lay a good foundation and research is the best place to start. Imagine writing a blog post. Reading exposes you to facts and information that will come in handy in your writing.

The facts build your references and will give you instances or real situations to mention in your writing. This makes your writing richer as it will become more informative, resourceful and useful to your readers.

  1. Reading opens you to different world views and perspectives

Whatever you write is always aimed at engaging your audience. To engage your audience you need to be able to understand them – what they like, what they believe in, what their problems are and how they have been dealing with their problems. This will help you write pieces that are of interest to your readers. Reading exposes you to other people’s way of thinking and when you reflect that in your writing, it helps you form a stronger connection with your audience.

  1. Reading helps you learn new words, phrases and modes of expression.

Every time you read something new you are bound to learn new words and meanings. These words will help improve your vocabulary and make your writing richer.

New words are not the only things you learn. You also learn how to use them effectively in your writing. Your writing becomes clearer and stronger. It helps you learn how to drive the message home. Although it will take a lot of practice, it is worth the time spent learning how to use those words and phrases.

Do you enjoy reading? I love reading and I am currently reading She Means Business by Carrie Green on my Amazon Kindle, which I am learning a lot from.
