I wanted to be an Interior Designer

Once upon a time, I wanted to be an Interior Designer. I played around with the idea for months, and even started an online interior designing course to help me achieve my dream. But I never got around to being one. The dream kind of frizzled away, just like my dream to be a Fashion Stylist(which I also studied for), and my dream to be an Accountant/Human Resources Consultant, which I studied at the University for 5 years in total for both degrees. These dreams and more frizzled out, giving room for my current career, which I love by the way.

Sometimes I do catch myself thinking about my dream of becoming an Interior Designer, especially when I am watching TV programmes like Homes Under the Hammer (I use to watch it every morning at some point), and wonder how my life would have been if I really became one. However I am very happy with the career I have chosen and how my life is going, so no regrets here.

I guess that explains my love for pretty homes. I am quite homely; I like to spend time in my home, and I like it to look very pretty. If I had an unlimited budget, I would give my house a complete makeover. I have many home improvement ideas in my head but I have to take it one at a time so I get them all done properly.

I have previously written about our garden plans and our need for a big shed. We got one last summer and we are making good use of it. It is a perfect size, so it stores all our junk neatly, and there is space for some more junk, which is good. The only thing I am considering changing is the shed windows. I recently came across Simply Plastics – a supplier of plastic materials and products for over 25 years, and they stock Replacement Acrylic Shed Windows, so I will be exploring that as an option later in the year.

I would also like to improve some of our home decor like cushions, mats and the likes. I plan to do that this Spring.

My favourite part of the house is the bedroom, followed closely by the living room. I spend a good amount of time in both rooms, and I like them looking their best, as well as the rest of the house. So new bed sheets, duvet sets, curtains and the likes will be updated this year.

The kitchen is my busy place, I like all the required kitchen tools and gadgets in place, to make my cooking as fast as possible, and my family fed. I recently got some new kitchen gadgets so I think we are good as far as the kitchen is concerned.

The truth of the matter is we never stop improving our home. Whether it is a new coach, washing machine or a new home office table and chair, the home improvements never really stop, especially when you are a home owner.

Do you enjoying home improvements? Have you ever studied for a career but decided against it?

5 Fashion Stylists’ Secrets

Autumn Layering

Many of us can only dream of employing a Fashion Stylist. Lets face it, they don’t go cheap, so having the likes of Rachel Zoe and others access our wardrobes may only happen in our dreams. I played with the idea of becoming a Fashion Stylist/Personal Shopper for some years. I even took a style course at the London College of Style (LCS) many moons ago. But I decide not to pursue it because it was not working in line with my lifestyle. I still have mad love for fashion and style, which is why you read a lot about them on Fashion and Style Police.

So today I am sharing a 5 Fashion Stylists’ Secrets I picked up along the way –

Flat Tummy

Many women hate their tummies. Our tummies are usually wobbly and unrecognisable once we pop out the a kid or 2. Wearing body con dresses can be a nightmare for many women but it really shouldn’t. There are so many magic girdles that handle this issue brilliantly so you should not have to suffer in silence. Just make sure, you buy the right pair for your size. If it is too tight, you will be super uncomfortable, if it is too loose, it won’t do the job, and if it has visible panels, everyone would now you have a girdle on.

Hairspray

To prevent a boob escape when wearing a boob tube, or to stop your ankle straps from falling down on your shoes, spritz some hairspray on the inside. Hairspray is also useful for preventing static clothes like a silk dress, from clinging. Try spraying a little over your tights to stop a silk dress or skirt from sticking to the tights.

OOTD Cape Dress

Dress down a frock

You can get more wear out of an evening piece by dressing it down with a cardigan or flats, for a laid back look.

Practice makes perfect

Practice makes perfect when it comes to anything and that includes fashion and style. You have to practice walking in heels to be good at it, it doesn’t just happen. You have to practice striking a pose and having a posture, to nail it. Standing with one leg forward, and foot pointed to the camera always works for me when striking a pose. This technique works because your back foot holds your body weight, and it creates the illusion of a slimline figure.

Play around with colours

Black creates an illusion of a slimmer figure so it is worth having a couple of black pieces in various styles. When wearing black or other primary colours, you can always accessorize with other colours to make your outfit pop and look less boring.

Styling the Mister for a Day

I enjoy playing dress up as you should all know by now. I also enjoy dressing other people up, especially the Mister and the toddlers. Back in my stylist days, I use to take delight in shopping for others and dressing them up. Every now and again, I still find the time to style outfits for others, especially the Mister. He does not like shopping, so I pretty much do all the shopping for him. And I enjoy doing it.

If I was asked to dress him up for a day, here are the pieces I would pick from the SS16 Collection at House of Fraser:

Polo Ralph Lauren Custom-Fit Short Sleeve Polo Shirt £75

Royal Blue Polo Shirt Image

We love Ralph Lauren Polos in our house. They are iconic and super quality. We have quite a few we got some years ago, and they still look as good as new.

This royal blue piece would look amazing on the Mister. It is an amazing colour, would suit his skin undertone (more on undertones later this week, so look out for the post), and it is a perfect colour for the summer. The price tag may appear heavy at £75, but quality does not come cheap.

Versace Jeans Tiger Slim Fit Indigo Jean £120 £84

I have had my eye on this piece for a while now and I am extremely happy to see it is now on sale for £84. This Versace Jeans Tiger slim fit indigo jean would look amazing paired with the Ralph Lauren Polo. I like the shade of the blue, and I like the fact that it is slim fit. It would look amazing on Mister, that is for sure.

Tommy Hilfiger Suede Lace-up Trainers £85 £59.50

This Tommy Hilfiger Suede Lace-up Trainers is also on sale at the moment, which is brilliant. I love the compact design. The grey suede is a beauty, and it would complement the blue Polo shirt and Versace jeans perfectly. And I know the Mister would love it too.

Calvin Klein 2 Pack Fine Stripe Socks £12 £6

A bloke can never have too many socks, right? And an outfit with trainers will never be complete without socks. The Calvin Klein stripe socks is a good deal at just £6 at the moment. I like the simple design so much. It would be a lovely addition to his socks collection.

These are the pieces I would be picking up if I was asked to style the Mister for a day. What do you think of these pieces? Sound off in the comment section please.

Thanks for reading  and have a lovely Friday.
