Having a Bad Day

Everyone has a fair share of good and bad days. Although it can be hard to believe that when all we see on social media is pictures of others having a good life, which is usually far from the truth. Even the most jovial of all people have their down times. Having a bad day happens to the happiest of us.

When you’re sad or lonely, there is an inclination to stay locked up indoors, listen to sad music or cry in bed. But as much as you may feel pushed to do all of these things, that will do no good.

The worst thing anyone could ever do when they’re sad is to remain sad. Yes, whatever may be the cause of your sadness, it is never a good excuse to stay that way. We all have bad days. Let’s face it: there’ll always be someone or something that will piss you off. I face bad days every now and then. But over time I developed some key strategies that have helped me get over my bad days and turn them into awesome ones.

Here are 6 things that you can do right away to get started.

Dance like no one is watching.

Music has an amazing effect on our emotions and the emotions heightens when we dance. Play some groovy music and flow with the rhythm. Just dance like no one is watching. I guarantee you would start to feel better within minutes of dancing. I do this all the time and it works. Pharrell Williams Happy song is one of my favourite songs to dance to whenever I feel low.

Having a bad day? Just smile.

This simple hack works any time any day. When the day looks grim, a smile can be a huge game changer. Smiling lightens up your mood even when you don’t feel like smiling. It’s so powerful that your day starts transforming into something positive. And guess what? A smile is contagious, so help spread the happiness around, by smiling more. I am learning to smile more and it is doing a lot of good for my mental health.

Talk to a trusted friend.

Sometimes all you need on a bad day is just to let out your feelings to someone you trust. A problem shared is a problem solved. Don’t be shy to pour your heart out to a good friend. Speaking about issues does help. I have a few trusted people on speed dial, I can trust with anything. And if you don’t have anyone you trust with your issues, you could write them down. You could write them down in a diary to get the weight off your chest. You could also blog about it, and get comments from complete strangers that would give you some peace or advise.

Engage in an activity you enjoy.

When you’re having a bad day, the easiest way to turn it around is by doing something that you enjoy. If you love going hiking, then go for it. If you love reading, pick up your favourite classic and flip through the pages. If you love playing the piano, then get your hands on your favourite piece. Engaging in an activity its you enjoy will definitely help you deal with a bad day.

Keep a gratitude journal.

No matter how bad your day is, you need to always count your blessings. Have a journal and write a list of all the things you are grateful for. It may be difficult in the beginning but as you keep at it, you’ll see that there are so many things out there to remain grateful for. It could be the little things, like a roof over your head, food on your plate, freedom, anything. I have a gratitude journal and I love writing in it. It reminds me to stay humble.

Make someone’s day brighter.

When your day is bad, challenge yourself to put a smile on someone’s face. Reach out to someone in need. Call a friend you’ve not been in touch with for years. Volunteer at a charity. As you try to make a positive impact on others, you’ll see your day transform for the better.

Why You Should Go On a Summer Holiday

If you have been reading Fashion and Style Police for a while now, you would know how much I love travelling. And how I find the time to travel every year, especially during summer. I find it the most enlightening, refreshing and educative activity that anyone could ever engage in.  Many people I know have never left the town they were born in, and I find that shocking. These people have never travelled all their lives for various reasons. But many of them do feel like traveling is a waste of time and money. They don’t know what they are missing. So this why you should go on a summer holiday post should open their eyes to why they need a good break every now and again.

Why you need a holiday image

For those who have not done much travelling, I want to challenge you today to take a trip. You don’t necessarily have to travel far away before you can experience the benefits of travel. Going to a neighbouring town is just as good as flying to a country on the other side of the world.

If you think that going on holiday is a waste of time and money, then you’re absolutely wrong! I can assure you that ever since I started travelling, I have been more open-minded and more appreciative of people and their various cultures. It’s really exciting! The adrenaline rush I get before and during a holiday is second to no other.

If you’re still a little skeptical, then here are some reasons why you should book a holiday.

To learn about different cultures

There’s nothing like experiencing first hand another country’s culture. Let’s face it, when you the country you live is all you have ever known then it becomes tempting to believe that where you live is all there is. There is a world out there with people of diverse cultures. It gives you an opportunity to know how other people live their lives and what their values are.

When you go on holiday you get the chance to be completely immersed in the lifestyle of a different culture than your own. You tend to develop this deep respect for diversity.

Going on a summer holiday gives you the opportunity to take time off to relax

As educative as going on holiday is, one of the key reasons why people go on holiday is to relax from a whole year of work and stress. Sitting on the sandy beach, going on a hike through nature or going sightseeing is a nice way to unwind and take your mind off work. It’s exhilarating and at the end of your holiday to end up feeling refreshed, and ready to take on the world.

To open you up to new perspectives

This is by far, the most fruitful part of going on holiday. Going on holiday makes you open-minded. When you are on holiday, you get the chance to see, live and experience things that are totally different from what you are used to. This challenges you to think wide and to open you to new possibilities.

Any time I go on holiday, I find myself filled with bursts of inspiration. My creativity levels are high and I feel more energized.

Summer Holiday present the best opportunity to spend quality time with your family

If you have ever been looking for the right time to spend quality time with your family, then going on holiday is the best option. When you are on holiday, you are far away from anything that will keep you away from your family. That is a wonderful time to bond with your family, and have some fun.

Where are you off to this summer?

Fashion and Style Police is Going Even More Personal

This October will make it 5 years of blogging. It has been 5 years of highs and lows, and I have learnt so much. I feel it is now time for me to take Fashion and Style Police to a different level, and blog slightly differently. Fashion and Style Police is Going Even More Personal!

So what are the changes to expect on Fashion and Style Police?

You may have noticed a slight change in the look of the blog. Well, I paid for the business package on WordPress. I contemplated doing that for some time now, but the price tag was a bit heavy. I decided to just do it last week for many reasons. With this business package, I have more control of the look of my blog. I have made a few changes thanks to some fantastic plugins I have installed. And I think this is a great way to start a new blogging chapter. I am so looking forward to the amazing opportunities that would surely come.

Apart from the new look of the blog, the content published on here will also change. I want them to be even more personal. So there would be lots of more photos and some blogging series would be scrapped. The Magazine Covers category would be scrapped, along with the Fashion Criminals category. All old posts in both categories would remain on the blog, but no new ones would be added, and I won’t be actively promoting the old blog posts in both categories but will be linking back to them where necessary.

I have contemplated stopping this blog series for months now, and I have finally decided to end it. Reading magazines and writing about them is one of my favourite things, but I believe it is time to give up the time and space for other projects.

I am also going to scrap the Who Wore It Better posts, as well as the Yay or Nay posts. Just like I stopped writing about Red Carpet Awards Fashion, I think it is time to give these up as well. However, the Beauty Muse and Style Icon categories would still stay on for now.

What’s New on Fashion and Style Police?

There shall be more outfit posts, product review posts and lifestyle posts. I hope to host more giveaways, so look out for those as well. There would be quite a few more fashion, beauty, self-employed/freelance and blogging tips posts as well. Basically, it is going to be the same blog you have been reading all these years but with a more personal touch. You would be reading and seeing a lot of what I am wearing, reading, trying, eating and what I am up to in general. So more travel and more of me than anything else! I will also be introducing some new blog series so look for those as well.

Cheers to the new month of August and the rest of the year. May it be a good one for us all. Have a lovely day and look out for my next post.
