4 Things You Need to Know Before You Go for Couple Therapy

Relationships are hard work. Both parties have to continue to give the relationship all they have in other for it to thrive. If one person is on board, and the other really isn’t, there is no way the relationship would survive. A good relationship can do wonders for our mental health, which is why it is so very important. Couple therapy can help save a relationship, and that explains why it is very popular today.

Life is so busy with the endless work, commuting, childcare, and all the other responsibilities we have as adults. Sometimes, we forget to nurture our relationships. If your relationship is struggling, some couples therapy may be all it needs to bring the spark back to life. Here are 4 things you need to know before you go for couple therapy.

Make sure the Therapist is qualified

Before starting the therapy sessions, you should ensure the therapist is qualified to provide the services. The last thing you would want is having to waste your time with a half-baked counselor/therapist. Apart from the fact that you would both be wasting your time with an unqualified therapist, you won’t want to take on the wrong advice. So it is best to ensure the Therapist is qualified before you sign up for any sessions.

Set money aside

I am all about budgeting this year, so this tip shouldn’t surprise my regular readers. Once you are sure of the qualifications of the Therapist, you need to set some money aside for your sessions. You both need to decide on how much you are willing to spend on the counseling, and stick to your budget. It makes sense to set aside a realistic amount to cover the costs of the sessions, so you don’t end using a form of credit to pay up. Having a budget for your couple counseling that allows some room for flexibility is the way to go.

Have an initial session

You both need to see if you like your Therapist’s way of counseling. Having an initial session to check this is recommended. Counseling is a very personal experience. You would be answering very personal questions, so you need to like your therapist and be very comfortable. If not, it would be a waste of time and money.  You both also need to know the Therapist’s views on marriages and relationships, and ensure it sits well with both parties.

Make sure you are both willing

This takes us back to the first thing I mentioned on here. You both need to be willing to put in the work for any relationship or marriage to work. The same goes for couple counselling. Both parties need to be willing to go for couple counselling and do all it takes to better the relationship. If one is on board and the other isn’t, it would be a waste of time. Communication is very important, and you need to communicate properly even more when you are undergoing couple counseling. Without communication, the therapy would be dead before it even starts.

3 Types of Feedback You Should Ignore as a Blogger

Blogging is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I started blogging over 6 years ago and it has now become more than just a hobby. When I started blogging in 2012, I never thought blogging would ever become my main source of income, but it has become just that, and I am forever grateful. Being able to work from home and be my own boss is a dream come true. I am able to work by myself from home to a schedule that works for me and my family. Every day is different and there is no dull moment in my working life now. My working life and personal life now complement each other beautifully and it makes me feel so fulfilled.

The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Keeping Your Sh*t Together: How to Run Your Business Without Letting it Run by Sherry Welling and Rob Welling

I have been busy reading a book  – The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Keeping Your Sh*t Together: How to Run Your Business Without Letting it Run You, on my Kindle. This book is great for any business owner. I have learnt so much from it already and I recommend it to anyone who is dealing with the many stresses of running a business or working for yourself.

This is a book you need to it. Sherry Welling and Rob Welling did a great job with this book. They explain how running a business can ruin your health, finances and even relationships. This book explains how to make sure you run your business without it running you. One of the best parts of this book for me was when Sherry explained how to handle negative feedback from others regarding your business. She mentioned how business owners should always consider the source when it comes to negative feedback. And she is so right.

3 Types of Feedback You Should Ignore as a Blogger

Our job as a blogger is to write. We share our experiences and views on our blogs and social media platforms. This exposes us to critics. Everyone has an opinion and many are not shy to express it. Many of these feedbacks are positive and many can be very negative as well. To be a happy blogger, we need to know the types of feedback to ignore and the types to take on board.

Here are 5 types of feedback you should ignore as a blogger.

Ignore Personal Attacks

Unfortunately people love to hate, especially on successful people or people who appear more successful than them. You need to recognise a troll and ignore personal attacks. The internet exposes to everyone who has an online connection, so we need to have a thick skin if you intend to blog. You should not respond to any personal attack on your person or your blog.

The mute/block button was created for a reason. You should not be afraid to use it. Just because the trolls come for you does not mean you have to entertain them. Delete that rude comment, block that rude person and keeping doing what you are doing.

Ignore negative feedbacks on things that work

If you get negative feedbacks on things that work for you and your blog, you should ignore it. If someone complains about the fact that you started off as a beauty blogger, but you now cover fashion and lifestyle because it works well with your blog, you should ignore that feedback. Not every feedback is good feedback. The person may or may-not be coming from a good place, but you know your blog/business more than anyone else. So you evolving from a beauty blog to a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog, would have been the best decision for you.

You don’t need to keep explaining why you do what you do and you should not change what works best for you. If that person does not like your new varied content, they can skip the blog posts that have no interest in, or skip your blog altogether.

Ignore Vague Feedback

I always ignore vague feedback. If you are going to give me feedback, it has to be constructive and detailed. A vague feedback like “Make it different!”, means you don’t really know what you are talking about. And if you have no clue what I do, you shouldn’t be giving me feedback especially when I didn’t ask you for it.

What types of feedback do you ignore?

Self Employment on a Budget

I have been self-employed for a few years now and although I love it, it does come with its challenges. On some month, I am super busy and my bank account is smiling. And some other months, it can be super quiet. One minute I could be wondering how to pay some bills, and the next minute I could be laughing all the way to the bank. That is pretty much the life of a freelancer/self-employed person. Our income fluctuates and there is so much financial uncertainty but I won’t trade it for a job in an office with a regular pay check. The pros of being a self-employed person massively outweighs the cons for me, which is why I do what I do.

You Need a Budget: The Proven System for Breaking the Paycheck-to-Paycheck Cycle, Getting Out of Debt, and Living the Life You Want

Having said that, the key to surviving the self employment world is to have a budget. I love reading finance self-help book on my Amazon Kindle. The book I am currently reading is You Need a Budget: The Proven System for Breaking the Paycheck-to-Paycheck Cycle, Getting Out of Debt, and Living the Life You Want by Jesse Mecham. It is the first book I am reading this year and I am loving the budgeting tips and advice. I have picked a lot from this book and I recommend it to anyone struggling to make the most of their money. You need to read this book. It is full of wisdom and valuable tips.

Everyone needs a budget regardless of what you do for money. Business owners and freelancers need a budget more than everyone else because of the income fluctuations. Having a budget helps you plan your money and make your money work for you. If you budget right, you can survive on periods where work is quiet because you would have saved money from the busy months.

Self Employment on a Budget

I am going to be handling my money a little differently this 2019. Generally, I am good with money but there is always room for improvements, and I plan to be better this 2019. Here are some things I would be doing more of –

Ageing my money

Jesse Mecham advises us to age our money. What this means is for us not to spend all of our money as soon as it comes in. This makes a whole lot of sense. Ageing your money allows you think smartly and set your priorities straight. It takes off the stress of having no money in your bank account and it allows you plan your life.  Ageing your money allows your money wait on you instead of you waiting on your money. It sounds pointless but it works. Trust me, I have tried it. The longer you can age your money, the better. I aim to age my money for at least 30 days. It is a work in progress but I am slowly getting there.

Spend less than what you earn

This should be common sense but it is amazing how we spend way more than what we earn. Which leads to us having to use our overdraft facility, store cards and credit cards to make up for the difference. Spending less than what we earn is the way to financial freedom.

Grow the savings

Having money saved away is the way to survive self employment. With the income uncertainty, you never know for sure when you would be short, so it makes sense to always have money stashed away for when the need arises. Growing the savings is one of my many goals this 2019.

Make more money

2019 is the year of making more money. That is another goal I plan to seriously work on this year. The way to financial freedom is to have many streams of income. I am planning on working hard on making money via affiliates and I am using an affiliate link in this post for the first time in a long time. Having many streams of income means you have various ways of making money. No one should ever rely on 1 pay check.
