Freelancers are Happy

It’s been a couple of years since I left my 9-to-5. Although I have no regrets about starting my own freelance business, there are days when I wonder how life would have still have been like if I had remained in my 9-to-5. For many people, transitioning from a 9-to-5 to being a freelancer can be scary. There are various reasons for this. But the question is, would remaining in your 9-to-5 make you happy? Is this something that you would be willing to do for the rest of your life? Are freelancers happy?

Are Freelancers Happy Image

Many freelancers are enjoying being able to run their own businesses from the comfort of their homes and being in control of their finances. They love being able to travel whenever they want and still be able to catch up on work. However, majority of freelancers/self-employed work on their own at home, which can be very quite and lonely. If you need a buzzing office environment to work, the whole idea of doing your own thing may not be for you just yet.

Although I can’t speak for all the freelancers out there, I can say from my experience that I am a lot happier than I was in my 9-5. Here are some of the reasons why –

Freelancers are happy because they have flexible schedules

I have more time to do what I want. I can work day or night. I do have deadlines for my clients, but I am not tied to fixed schedules. I don’t have opening hours nor closing hours. I can work at anytime and anywhere, which is the best part of being a freelancer. You actually get to work in more relaxed conditions.

Freelancers are happy because they can determine their income

Traditional workers have to work extremely hard in order to earn a promotion that will give them a raise in their paycheck. And if you’ve ever worked at a 9-to-5 that can take years to attain.

The good news is that freelancers don’t ever have to worry about facing that problem. If I want to raise my income, I raise my rates, develop new income streams or pitch to more potential clients. The level of my income is in my hands, kind of. I can choose to earn as much as I want, so long as I put in the work and market my services.

Freelancers are happy because they get to spend more time with their loved ones

Now this is a biggie for me. I remember when I was working in my 9-to-5, and I remember working very late. I even on some weekends and bank holidays. Now that I am a mum, I can’t imagine working those hours. It just won’t work. I respect people who are happy to work long hours and all, but it is just not a lifestyle I can afford right now.

With my business, I get to enjoy the opportunity to be with my family and still keep the business up and running.

Freelancers are happy because they can positively impact others

Most freelancers are mentors to a host of other upcoming freelancers. As they teach people how to start and run their own businesses, they begin to impact in the lives of those people. There’s nothing as fulfilling as being able to touch the lives of people who will better their own world. It is one of the best feelings ever!

How to Get Rid of Body Odour

Smelling good is good for business. We all aspire to smell nice. That is why perfumes, deodorants, body sprays, and products that smell nice would always be in demand. Sometimes, we use all of these products but we still catch ourselves smelling funky. So how do we get rid of body odour?

The NHS website defines body odours as the unpleasant smell produced by bacteria on the skin that break down the acids in your sweat. The medical term is bromhidrosis. On the website, it goes further to mention the possible causes of body odours and when to seek help. We should all know the possible causes of body odours,  and how to deal them. Having regular showers, shaving the armpits regularly, use of deodorants, perfumes, anti-perspirant, wearing clean clothes, are some of the ways to help get rid of body odours.

But what happens when we do all of these things, but yet still stink? Most women experience a lot of body changes after pregnancy, and sometimes dealing with a sudden body odour could be one of it. For some women, it is nothing to do with the personal hygiene, diet or pregnancy, the odour just springs up from and nothings seems to combat it.

Here are 2 tried and tested ways you could get rid of body odour today.

Use Lemon/Lemon Juice

A common spot for body odour is the underarms. Sometimes, we could take as many showers as possible, use all the effective deodorants, anti-perspirants and perfumes, and still smell funky. That is because, these products just mask the odours, they do not deal with the root cause. This is where lemons come in.

Lemons or lemon juice are great for getting rid of body odour. The acidic nature of lemon lowers the pH levels of the body which make it inhabitable for bacterial growth. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of lemon juice suppress the growth of microbes that live on our skin and feed our sweat. So lemons deal with the underlying causes of body odours.

I recommend soaking a cotton pad in the juice and rubbing it on your underarms and other odorous areas of the body. You could also squeeze the juice from lemons directly on your underarms. Let the juice dry on its own. You can repeat this process once or twice a week but make sure you don’t do this just after shaving as it stings.

I have used Lemons and Lemon juice as a deodorant for a while now and I highly recommend it. You want to (or need to) use anything else once you try this.

Get rid of Body Odour with Head and Shoulders Shampoo

Another way to get rid of body odour is to wash the underarms and public hair (if you have any) with Heads and Shoulders. This is another tried and tested tip and it works like magic!

All you need to do is to apply a tiny bit of Heads and Shoulders shampoo where needed and scrub. You wash off after a minute. You can get the same result from any type of Heads and Shoulders Shampoo.

I am no Dermatologist, and all what you read here is my personal opinion, as always. However, these tips are tried and tested, and they work. So do let me know if you try them. Also feel free to drop any body odour tip you have tried and tested.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely week

Summer Decorating Tips

Summer is a beautiful season. It’s one of my favourite seasons of the year. The holidays, jolly sunshine, the cheery mood and friendly warmth always makes me happy. I guess the lovely season has prompted this Summer Decorating Tips post.

Simple interior decorating tips can bring in any season you desire into your home or your office. The trick is to add little reminders of the season. For this post, I am focusing on the current summer season.

Here are some summer decorating tips that you can start implementing right away –

Flowers or Floral print pillows

What if your home had blooming flowers all the time? Having real life flowers is always charming, and it is one of the best ways to ensure your home decor is seasonal. Another easy way to bring the summer into your home is to get floral print pillows.

Such pillows are excellent as summer decor as the warm colours of summer brings in this feel of summer. Get floral pillows that have a mix of orange, yellow and warm red. Such colours are excellent for depicting the summer vibe.

Bring in ‘em stripes

Aside from flowers and floral prints, stripes make a good pattern to decorate the house with. Striped throw pillows, striped table cloths and even striped wallpaper create a very lovely summer mood. Unlike floral prints, stripes are quite sober yet fun.

Remember to create some contrast. If you’re going to have striped wallpaper then you don’t have to cover all 4 walls. Stick to half or just one side.

Shaded string lights

Summer is a season of fun, warmth and family gatherings. Shaded string lights that are arranged in the garden or on the porch bring about a very playful feel. Everywhere is kept bright as the warm light from the shaded string lights line the sitting area outside. This inspires family dinners in the garden, where you’ll enjoy nature and the beauty of summer night.

The best way to go about this is using a string of shaded lights and arranging them along a porch or over the length of a shade where you know you can set a table where people can seat around for dinner. That creates the perfect ambience for the summer season.

Rearrange the room to focus on the windows

Here is my last summer decorating tip. Rearrange the room to focus on the windows if you can. This allows for more light to flow in.
