Blogging Tips – How to Streamline your Blog Content Creation

Blogging is a lot of work. I have been blogging for close to 6 years now and it gets harder the more you blog. If you plan to take your blog from a hobby to a business, then you have to be prepared to do the work. I work pretty much everyday on one blog related job or the other. If I am not writing or articles blog posts, I am taking and editing photos, or scheduling social media posts.

There is always something to do when you work from home and run a business. It is tricky to separate home life from work life because it all happens in the same place. And my team are my family members but it works great for us. We won’t have it any other way.

You can’t succeed as a content creator if you don’t create content regularly. A good way to stay on top of your content creation as a blogger is to streamline your content. Here are ways you can go about doing that.

Have a blogging schedule

I blog pretty much everyday, so that is my schedule. Sometimes, I am unable to blog for some days when life gets in the way which is the same for all of us. Having said that, it works better when your readers know when to expect a new blog post. Having a blogging schedule is a great way to grow your readership and stay ahead of the game.

Get a blogging journal

Blogging journals are great for writing down ideas and anything related to your blog. I always have mine on me for whenever inspiration strikes. If I am unable to get to my journal, I make use of my iPhone notepad. Have a list of blog post ideas in a journal means you always have fresh ideas for your blog posts.

Determine the objective of your content

Before you start writing your posts, it makes sense to determine the objective of the blog post. Once you have that outlined, then the rest of the content would follow naturally. Having a clear objective of your content means you have a good title, relevant focus keyword and additional keywords all good to go. That way the blog post would be interesting to read and easy to find on search engines.

Keep writing

I write a post pretty much everyday. Sometimes I write about 2/3 posts a day, depending on deadlines and what campaigns I am working on. Writing everyday has helped me become a better writer. And my number 1 blogging tip to anyone thinking of turning their blog to a business, is to read and write as many times as possible everyday.

When it comes to streamlining your blog content creation, the more you write, the more blog posts you would have in your draft. So that means you would always have posts ready to be published even on days when you are unable to write.

How to Increase the Time People Spend Reading Your Blog Content

As a blogger it’s getting incredibly difficult to sustain the interest of our readers. People have short attention spans and with social media it’s getting even shorter. You may work hours trying to craft the best blog content but if the level of engagement on your content is low then that’s not time well spent.

However there are ways you can sustain your readers’ attention when reading your blog and encourage them to engage with your blog content.  If you’re having trouble keeping your readers on your blog longer then here are some things you can do to increase the time people spend reading your blog content.

  1. Make it easy for your readers to spot the value you give

Since people’s attention span is short, you need to make sure that you put value upfront. Make your content easy for your readers to scan through your content and spot areas of value. When you do this you’ll encourage your readers to stop on valuable points and read further instead of keeping them lost in a sea of words.

Here are ways you can achieve this:

  • Break up your content using bullet points, subheadings, subtopics or takeaways.Let each section focus on a single idea. This makes it easy to scan through and if they come across a section they’d like to know more about then they’ll read more about that bullet point.
  • Make use of quotes or call outs. You can creatively use quotes or call outs to capture the attention of your readers and encourage your readers to dive deeper into your content.

  1. Incorporate imagery

If there’s anything that captures people’s attention it’s imagery. Readers relate with images a lot better especially when the images compliment the blog content. Images don’t only engage your readers, they also make your blog content colourful and more visually appealing. This makes your content so much easier to consume.

There are many ways you can add imagery to your blog content. Here are a few you can get started with:

  • Break your content up with relevant images that enhance your content.Try placing images that represent the idea behind each sub topic. That way you’re creating a picture in the mind of your readers of the message you want to pass across in your blog.
  • Insert infographics. Infographics present data in a creative, fun and engaging way which effectively sustains the attention of your readers.

  1. Add videos

If there’s anything that can keep your readers longer on your blog, then it has to be videos. People love videos. Videos can add more context to your content. Although it’s so much better to insert your own videos, you can place videos from other sources on your blog so long as the videos you choose are relevant to the content of your blog post.

Here are some types of videos you can incorporate in your blog post:

  • Instructional videos. These are ‘how-to’ videos which teach your readers something related to your content. Instead of going into detail about how a particular thing is done, you can insert a helpful video which does just that for you.
  • Complementary videos. These are videos which focus on enhancing your content like videos that give examples or summarizes the content in your blog post.

And remember to enjoy your blogging journey. It is a journey into the unknown.

Growing a thick skin as a blogger

Being a blogger opens you up to all sorts. You get the admirers and the trolls. The great comments, the shades and the in your face insults. The job comes with both as we expose our creation (whatever it may be) to the whole world. So if there is one thing you need to have or work on asap as a blogger, is to grow a thick skin. Blogging is not only about writing. You have to spent a good amount of time promoting your blog and social media platforms, especially in the early days.

Putting your blog out there is essential in order to make a name for yourself. These actions usually attracts more eyeballs to your blog, which is a good thing. But then the trolls find you, and if you are not strong enough, the rude comments may stop you blogging altogether.

Growing a thick skin as a blogger

So how do you grow a thick skin as a blogger. I have been blogging for almost 6 years now and I have had a few rude comments but not as many as I thought I would if I am being completely honest. Which is a good thing I guess. I had most of the trolls in the first year of my blog, which I found surprising. I guess their aim was to kill the little confidence I had in my blog back then. I also have a feeling some of the trolls knew me in real life, which I find really sad for them.

Here are three ways you could grow a thick as a blogger.

Carry on anyway

I know how hard it can be. But the key to growing a thick skin as a blogger is to ignore the negative comments and carry on anyway. Delete any rude comment and block any troll on your social media platform. There is no need trying to have a conversation with them. The only aim of the troll is to make you feel bad about yourself and what you do. And that is because they feel bad about themselves. Don’t let them project their negative thoughts on you. Ignore them, use the delete.block option and carry on anyway.

Work on your self-confidence

In order to be a successful blogger you have to work on your self-confidence. This bit is very important. If you have no self-confidence, you wouldn’t be able to carry on anyway when the negative comments start rolling in. Once you have self-confidence and believe in your work, no one can get to you as much as they would if you don’t have any. You have the key to your self-confidence, use it.

Don’t take things personally

It is incredibly hard to not take things personal when people are nasty towards you, but you must learn not to. Nasty people live nasty lives which is why that is all they can give. Do not let them project their frustrations and bitterness on to you. Instead see right through them and keep it moving. Do not entertain or engage their negative energy.
