Redecorating on a Budget

I have always been the creative type. Although I spend a lot of my time mixing and matching outfits, I also love decorating my home. Of course, you can’t compare redecoration with styling outfits, but it still puts my creativity to work, which is great. And I wanted to train as an Interior Designer once upon a time.

There’s nothing as comforting as walking into beautifully furnished rooms. But when you talk about redecorating, most people think that it means a huge strain on your budget. The truth is that you don’t have to spend so much money to have a gorgeous home.

Little tweaks here and there, simple additions, and a good dose of creativity are all you need to have a divinely decorated home that everyone will admire. In this post I’m going to share with you some of the redecorating tips that will inspire you to give your home the jazz, glitz and glamour it needs.

  1. Take a good look at what you have

Shocked? One of the most inexpensive ways to redecorate your home is to use what you have. Are there some pieces of furniture, pictures or decorative items that you can move to a different room?

Reshuffling your furniture and home accessories around is all you need to give your home a fresh look. Is there a coffee table that you keep in the study that will look great in the living room? Or throw pillows you keep in the guest bedroom that will match the sofas in the living room?

Take a day off and move the furniture around and see if it’ll work out. Don’t stop with the furniture! Try swapping curtains, rugs or even vases for a different look!

  1. Invest in some house accessories

The little things can make the greatest difference! Home accessories like new lampshades, table settings, or flower arrangements can make your room really different. The accessories don’t have to be expensive. Simple ornaments can work wonders and the good thing about this is they don’t cost so much.

A good tip is to find accessories that will fit the general theme or colour scheme you’re trying to achieve in each room. Play around with colours and textures of different accessories.

  1. Refurbish second-hand pieces

Yard sales, auction houses, and second-hand stores hold treasures that will look amazing in your home and easy on your pocket. But here’s a gentle warning: don’t get carried away with colours or fabrics. Let the shape and structure of the home items guide your choices.  This is because you can always refurbish those pieces to your taste.

Old but nicely shaped furniture can be styled to look like timeless pieces that will add the charm to your home. Worn wood or dull looking items could be polished, varnished or repainted to look brand new.

  1. Put up pictures

Remember the saying “A picture’s worth a thousand words”? It also makes your house look like a million bucks. A beautiful picture hung in a prominent part of the house can give your home an uplift. We have many pictures on walls and I am looking to add more. I think pictures make a house a home.

Play around with a collage of family photos or nature pictures. There are fabulous original pieces that go for a bargain. However, there’s really no need to go over the top by covering your all your walls with pictures. One or two well placed pictures in your home can make your home vibrant and full of life.

So there you have them; my budget friendly redecorating tips. Do you have any tips to add?

OOTD: A Fashion Blogger Cheshire

I am loving the autumn season and layering trend going on. It is my favourite time of the year as it is not too hot or too cold, and only rains on few occasions in Cheshire, so I am loving it at the moment. But the layering trend is my favourite part of autumn. I wore this outfit some days ago. I had errands to run and some friends to see, and I wanted a very casual chic look; this is what I came up with.

Many of these items are new additions to my autumn wardrobe. I got the sweater, shirt, shoes and bag at my shopping event at Cheshire Oaks some weeks ago. And I love that they all complement my existing wardrobe already. That is 1 thing I look out for when shopping. I always have a plan and a list of pieces and accessories I need to fill in the gaps in my wardrobe. I don’t do impulse shopping. Apart from the fact that it is bad for your bank balance or credit card statement as the case might it, it also messes up your wardrobe. You end of having many items you can’t pair together, which means they can be left unworn with the tags on in your wardrobe for years to come.

Shopping smart means I never run out of outfits to wear, regardless of the season. And that is extremely important as a Fashion Blogger. It would be ridiculous for me to go shopping every week (even if I could afford to) to show off a new outfit, but thanks to having a capsule wardrobe, every outfit looks new.

My Custom Stickers

Being an online entrepreneur means there is a lot of self promotion going on. I mean it would be silly to set up a blog or any kind of business and not promote the hell out of it. I just published a post on how blogging can be a job, so have a read and share your thoughts on it.

I am not quite a professional when it comes to self promotion. I am better at promoting others but I have come to realise that for me to promote others successfully, I have to be able to promote myself first. And that is where these custom stickers come in.

I got these custom stickers sent to me some days ago and I am loving them. They have been keeping me very busy.

The lovely people at StickerApp got in touch and offered to send me some custom stickers, and I jumped at the offer. I have always wanted stickers with my blog design, so this opportunity was amazing collaboration.

For those who have never heard of StickerApp, it is printing company with more than 9 years in the business of printing custom stickers, so these guys know what they are doing when it comes to stickers in general.

I found the StickerApp website very navigate, I didn’t need special instructions or dummies guide to place my order. It was a smooth process, and I got my custom stickers within a week of placing my order, which was fab. I went for a glossy coated vinyl material (which is actually StickerApp’s bestselling material), 14.4x3cm, and 84 in quantity, which I believe is more than enough. The order was just under £35, so it is quite affordable.

As you can see, I have been playing around with my stickers already, sticking them everywhere and anywhere. I find decorating my notebooks very relaxing. Do you find it relaxing?

The notepad above is where I write all my blog secrets, so many of my blog ideas and freelance work is drafted in there. I got this notepad at the beginning of the year and it doesn’t leave my sight. I am sure I would have covered the entire cover with the StickerApp custom stickers by the end of the week.

I am looking forward to promoting my brand some more with these stickers. I will be sticking them on my possessions and carrying them around with me. Who knows what will happen.

You can grab your stickers on the StickerApp website (link in bio), with this 20% discount code – STYLEPOLICE, valid until 1st December 2016.
