Managing your money as a freelancer

I have been freelancing for almost 7 years now and I had to learn on the job. The many articles I read before and while on the freelancing journey did give me tips and tricks to help me as a freelancer, but none of them really prepared me for how to manage my money as a freelancer. When it comes to managing your money as a freelancer, you need to have your numbers head screwed on tight and quick or risk losing the plot. The life of a business owner can be a rollercoaster. You have to be prepared for the busy times as well as the not so busy times.

Should You Take A Pay Cut To Advance Your Career image

Here are a few tips that should help in managing your money as a freelancer –

Set your prices

One of the first things I did was to set my prices. I have a fixed price for every service I offer. That way I don’t have to research or think about what price to give a client for a job. I know what I am worth and I do market research every now and again to make sure my prices are competitive.

Send out invoices

I know many freelancers don’t send out invoices to clients for various reasons but I always make sure my clients receive an invoice for every job. That way I have a trail of all my jobs, clients, and prices. It also makes submitting my tax returns easy since I have all the records in one place.

Take payment in advance

I like to take payment in advance where possible. That way I don’t have to chase payments (that is a job in itself). I appreciate clients that pay quickly and in advance. Going forward, I will be requesting to take more payment in advance. It saves time and effort.

Save for the rainy day

Most freelancers will know all about how busy work can be in some months and how quiet it can be in other months. I have been freelancing for a few years now and I know the pattern. My advice to not just the freelancers but every business owner is to save some money for the rainy day. Don’t spend all your earn, stash some away for when work is quiet.

Don’t work for free

These days, I thankfully don’t have people asking me to work for free anymore. My work pays my bills and more, so working for free isn’t really an option. I know my worth and I am very quick to ignore anyone who questions it by asking me to work for free or for a ridiculous fee. I manage my money by not working for free.

At the end of the day, we are all different and we will manage our money in our own way. These are some of the ways I make it work for me. Being able to work for me for this long is a dream come true. It has completely changed my life for the better and I am grateful to be able to do all that I do. Apart from this blog which is my main source of income, I am also a Content Writer, Blogger Outreach Consultant, Social Media Manager, Blog Coach, Authour, and Vlogger.

How to Wash Your Face Like Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn is fashion goals all day every day but she is also a beauty muse. I love staring at her gorgeous face. She was one hell of a beauty. Audrey Hepburn beauty/skincare tips are always a reading pleasure. I love trying out her skincare tips. They always work so well for me. Recently, I came across some of her face wash tips and I have been washing my face just like that. The steps are quite easy to follow and very straightforward. You may find that you have been unconsciously washing your face like this the whole time and not realise our very own Audrey Hepburn recommended these same steps.

Immerse the soap bar in hot water

The first step is to immerse your soap bar in hot water that is comfortable to touch. Then rub the soap bar gently over the face. After rubbing the soap bar all over the face, dip the soap bar again into the hot water and make a rich lather in your hands.

Massage lather over the face

The next step is to massage lather over the face.

Splash the face 20 times with the hot water

Once the lather has been massaged all over the face, splash the face 20 times with the hot water. Remember this water must be comfortable to touch, so not too hot. It is best to mix some hot water in a container so you are sure you have the right temperature.

Splash the face 10 times hot running water

This is the tricky bit, splashing the face 10 times with hot running water is the next step. I do this step quickly so the water does not get too hot.

Pat dry

The final step is patting the face dry with a very soft towel. Don’t be tempted to rub as this could your skin do more harm than good.

5 Tips for Perfect Lips

When it comes to makeup, lipsticks are some of my favourite beauty products. I love wearing a bright shade even on no makeup days, like these days. A good lipstick has the power to wake up your face. I have quite a huge collection of lipsticks in a variety of shades, so I have stopped buying for now. It is funny to look back at the days I avoided putting up lipsticks because I didn’t know how best to apply them on my lips. If you are like how I was back in the day, you will find these 5 tips for perfect lips very useful.

Get the lightening right

The first thing you need to do is to make sure you are applying your lipstick under the brightest light possible. That way you have a good idea of how the shade really looks. The last thing you would want is to apply too much or too little lipstick because you have a dull light.

Use a lip brush

This is the oldest trick in the book. If you want your lipstick to stay on longer, use a lip brush. I know it is a lot easier to just apply the lipstick directly but using a lip brush gives a better finish and stays on a lot longer.

Line your lips

I always use a lip liner to line my lips before filling in with a lipstick. That way the lipstcik stays on longer and looks a lot better too!

Powder the lips

After applying the first coat with a lip brush, add some face powder lightly over the lips to act as a base for the second coat.

Blot and reapply

Once the first coat is applied, wait a minute, blot and reapply using a lip brush as before. These steps lock in the shade living a smoother finish which stays on for longer.

Hopefully, you find these 5 tips for perfect lips post useful. Have a lovely weekend. Stay safe xx
