5 Fashion Stylists’ Secrets

Autumn Layering

Many of us can only dream of employing a Fashion Stylist. Lets face it, they don’t go cheap, so having the likes of Rachel Zoe and others access our wardrobes may only happen in our dreams. I played with the idea of becoming a Fashion Stylist/Personal Shopper for some years. I even took a style course at the London College of Style (LCS) many moons ago. But I decide not to pursue it because it was not working in line with my lifestyle. I still have mad love for fashion and style, which is why you read a lot about them on Fashion and Style Police.

So today I am sharing a 5 Fashion Stylists’ Secrets I picked up along the way –

Flat Tummy

Many women hate their tummies. Our tummies are usually wobbly and unrecognisable once we pop out the a kid or 2. Wearing body con dresses can be a nightmare for many women but it really shouldn’t. There are so many magic girdles that handle this issue brilliantly so you should not have to suffer in silence. Just make sure, you buy the right pair for your size. If it is too tight, you will be super uncomfortable, if it is too loose, it won’t do the job, and if it has visible panels, everyone would now you have a girdle on.

Hairspray

To prevent a boob escape when wearing a boob tube, or to stop your ankle straps from falling down on your shoes, spritz some hairspray on the inside. Hairspray is also useful for preventing static clothes like a silk dress, from clinging. Try spraying a little over your tights to stop a silk dress or skirt from sticking to the tights.

OOTD Cape Dress

Dress down a frock

You can get more wear out of an evening piece by dressing it down with a cardigan or flats, for a laid back look.

Practice makes perfect

Practice makes perfect when it comes to anything and that includes fashion and style. You have to practice walking in heels to be good at it, it doesn’t just happen. You have to practice striking a pose and having a posture, to nail it. Standing with one leg forward, and foot pointed to the camera always works for me when striking a pose. This technique works because your back foot holds your body weight, and it creates the illusion of a slimline figure.

Play around with colours

Black creates an illusion of a slimmer figure so it is worth having a couple of black pieces in various styles. When wearing black or other primary colours, you can always accessorize with other colours to make your outfit pop and look less boring.

A Man in a Suit

So today I bring to you a different outfit post. The M has taken over!!

There is nothing dapper than a man in a suit, a man in a well fitted suit always looks good. There are so many suit designers and shops around today, but it can be very hard to find quality amongst them. Many are not as good as they should be and that is the reason we have many men walking around in ill fitted suits. Honestly,  I do a double take at some suits I see. There is nothing worse than an ill-fitted suit!

Dobell got in touch with Fashion and Style Police some weeks ago, and offered me the golden opportunity to select some pieces for a man in my life and I was super excited. It is a blog takeover kind of, with M strutting his fashion stuff this week and I am enjoying it.

For those who have never heard of Dobell before, it is a leading online formal wear store for men and boys of all ages, established in 2003. It was voted best value formal wear in the UK by the Daily Mail, and the pieces and design speak for themselves. This is a quality brand right here.

This was my first time shopping on the Dobell website and I found it super easy to navigate my way through. I was also spoilt for my choice, there were so many options to choose from but I finally settled on a contemporary suit (blazer, trousers and waistcoat), a red silk twill tie, and a light blue shirt. I was happy to see them look so dapper on the mister. I went for this contemporary look because it is always in fashion and it is so easy to style.

The quality of this suit and the fine tailoring is impeccable. I am in love.

I recommend Dobell 100%. These guys definitely know their stuff!

His shoes are also giving me life right now. I am so into quality shoes at the moment. There is nothing as cool as a man or woman rocking cool stylish shoes.

September Outfits 2016

September was an interesting month of outfits on Fashion and Style Police. It was a transition month to Autumn Fashion and I loved it. As you all know, I am a big fan of Autumn Fashion with the layers and comfy pieces, so I really enjoyed styling various looks and photographing them. It was my way of saying goodbye to Summer Fashion and getting myself and wardrobe ready for Autumn.

I didn’t have the opportunity to post as many outfits as I would have wanted because September was a very busy month for me in my real life as well as my online life. But I got away with posting 3 different looks.

Here is a brief recap for those who missed them:

OOTD: It Feels Like Autumn

I had this white dress in my wardrobe for weeks before I actually wore it. I usually shy away from buying white pieces because I use to think they were not investment pieces. But I have sort of fallen in love with white, and I blame it on my Fashion Blogger friend – Moji of Moj n Touch, she makes white look so good.

I found this outfit easy to style. I was naturally drawn to the pieces and accessories. It took zero effort.

OOTD: A Blogger Event Outfit

I wore this outfit to the Street Style Bus Event some weeks ago, and I told you all about why I wear black to press events and all. So if you missed any of the posts, hit the links and catch up.

This outfit was easy to style as well. I am a sucker for animal prints (like you may have already noticed) when styled correctly. I have quite a few in my wardrobe.

OOTD: A Wedding Guest Outfit

So I saved the best for last. My favourite look in September and the most viewed outfit post is this Wedding Guest Outfit right here. I really enjoyed styling this look. It took me out of my comfort zone and I liked the finished look. This wedding guest outfit inspired a lot of my readers and I was very pleased to hear that.

Which is your favourite outfit of all?
