Hey people. Happy new week. I hope you all had a terrific weekend, because I did. It is another Monday, and I am ready to set this week off with a bang and finish off February on the highest note.

For this double denim outfit post, I am rocking two denim pieces and accessories with a black and white scarf, gold sneakers, black sunnies and black bag.

I love rocking the denim on denim look. I find it effortlessly chic and easy to style. The weather is getting a lot better, the chill has reduced so it is the perfect time to start layering with lighter pieces, and I am starting off with this double denim outfit. Twice as much denim, is twice as good!

This Joules denim dress is a new addition in my wardrobe. I have not had a denim dress in my wardrobe for years so I was happy to grab this online. I fell in love with it as soon as it landed on my doorstep. I love the free fit of this jersey pocket dress. It is timeless, classic and very flattering. It can be worn layered up with leggings/jeggings during winter, or worn on its own during summer. It is such a versatile piece, I will be wearing a lot of it during the coming months.

Another new wardrobe addition is this Lacoste Aviator sunnies. It is my first pair of Aviator style sunglasses so you can imagine the love I have for it.  I adore the contemporary, oversized look. You will be seeing a lot of this beauty on Fashion and Style Police.

5 Blogging Tips for Working with PRs

woman-1030895_960_720

Bloggers and PRs need each other to succeed. We bloggers need PRs and brands to notice our blog, and there are so many of us competing for the attention. PRs on the other hand, need to find the right bloggers to showcase their client’s products/services, and there are so many options, on both sides, so we kind of need each other really. However, I do find there is a bit of a love and hate relationship between most bloggers and PRs these days and I wonder why.

Could it be because some bloggers think too highly of themselves and behave unprofessional? Could it be because many PRs try to take advantage of bloggers, especially the new or less established ones, so many of us have our guard up as soon as a new PR comes in contact?

Who knows, but I feel a little friction in the blogging/PR relationship so I decided to share 5 tips for working with PRS that has worked for me and gotten me repeat business:

Be Polite

I know sometimes being polite maybe hard especially when you keep getting rude, unpersonalised emails from PRs asking for all sorts for little or no compensation. I try to remain as polite as possible when responding to my emails, and believe me I do receive all sorts of emails, with crazy requests, and no budget, but I bite my tongue and draft my email in the most polite tone possible, before pressing send. If I am unable to remain polite, I simply ignore the email, than send a rude response.

Respond to Emails in a Timely Manner

I aim to respond to my emails within 24 hours. I get emails from readers and PRs, so I check my emails regularly, because I like to be on top of my blog, guess I am addicted. I find it funny when some bloggers claim not to respond to emails in the evenings or at weekends, because I do. Call me weird, but I have had requests for sponsored posts in the evenings and weekends, time zones are different and some people prefer working round the clock, so it will be silly of me to ignore the possibility of receiving such emails. As long as I am awake and free, I will respond to an email even if it is 3am.

Ask for ALL the details for the Campaign

So get the post deadline date, the number of links required in the post and the type of link; are they do follow, or no follow, how many words or pictures required, any anchor texts, payment date agreed and so on. It is best to get all the required information so there is no room for assumption, and so you can decide if you will be going ahead with the campaign or not. It also makes you look professional when you ask these questions. It makes you look like you know what you are doing.

Stick to your End of the Deal

So if you say you are going to publish the post next week, make sure you do. If you say you are going to email once the post is live or once you get the samples, make sure you do. Your word is all you have when dealing with people online. Majority of the correspondence between bloggers and PRs, are done via email and Paypal, so ensure you fulfil every promise you make, when you say you would.

Don’t Name & Shame

No matter how badly a PR has treated you, try not to name and shame on Twitter or wherever. I know this is hard, I find it so hard myself but it is best not to. Naming and shaming won’t score you any points with new PRs and brands, and the internet world is very small. Many PRs move in the same circles, so it is best to heed to this advice.

Iris Apfel Lands New Ad Campaign at 94

iris-apfel-600x800

I love reading inspirational stories, they motivate me to aim high and keep chasing my dreams. They keep me going on those difficult days, when things are not going as planned. Iris Apfel’s story is so inspiring, the fact that this ageless style icon is still working in the fashion industry is unreal, her story keeps me going.

Iris Apfel, the 94-year-old flamboyant fashionista is the busiest campaign model for this spring season. She is even busier than Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid put together, and it is not looking like she is going to retire anytime soon. You would think a woman who has achieved so much in the fashion industry would be relaxing at her age, but not Iris Apfel. She is a very different kind of woman. She is a the definition of ACTIVE and she is not chilling for now.

“Oh my god, I love being busy, I think it keeps me alive. I’m probably the busiest person you ever heard of. I’m busy to the point of insanity.”

Iris Apfel is the new face of Blue Illusion, and she features in Blue Illusions’s Spring 2016 ad campaign (and accompanying video below), she also helped style the shoot and welcomed the photo crew inside her magnificent New York apartment:

“All of the accessories in the campaign were mine. I accessorized everything,” she tells PeopleStyle. “I have a very big collection. I’ve been collecting since I was 11 years old. I’m 94 now, so do the arithmetic. It’s a lot of stuff.”

Iris credits her love of fashion and accessories to her mother:

“My mother worshiped at the altar of the accessory and she taught me that they were extremely transformative. You could have one basic black dress and if you had a group of accessories and you had some creativity, you could make 20 outfits. Change them around. And I learned a lot from that.”

Which is one reasons why she fell in love with Blue Illusion’s designs:

“I thought they have a wonderful product and I’m always interested in clothes that are architectural and suitable for people of all ages,” she shares. “That’s something I really champion and I think they do a very good job on all those fronts.”

Iris Apfel is also working with Kate Spade for the second year in a row on a campaign, and various other fashion projects. Her career inspires me, I find her so intriguing. I can’t believe she is still working, and showing no signs of stopping at the age of 94 years. When majority of us would have stopped working 30 years ago.
