OOTD: Spring/Summer Outfit

Looking Summery Image

The weather this weekend at my end went from one extreme to the other. It was nice and sunny on Saturday, and I made the most of it. I went for a swim, had outfits photos snapped, went for long walks and had a few errands sorted. Then came Sunday, and it was like we were back in winter again. It was very cold and wet, rained pretty much all day, and then we even hailstorm in the evening. It was a proper mental weather, you won’t believe the days were just next to each other, with the very different weather.

Speaking of weather, and how we are in meant to be in spring, getting ready for summer, but it still feels like winter on some days, we can start rocking our spring/summer pieces and accessories now. As long as you layer right on the chilly days, you would be fine. If not half the year may go by with you still rocking your autumn/winter pieces.

Spring Look

The good way to start slowly introducing your spring/summer wardrobe is to start with your shoes. It may not be warm enough for summer dresses and skirts, but you can get away with rocking sandals and summer shoes now, as long as you style them properly. There are so many amazing summer shoe collections in stores now, Kurt Geiger has so many stylish additions available this season, and this shoe candy I am rocking is one of them, so keep an eye on their new shoe collection section.

I adore the slightly curved small heel, I found it super comfortable. The ankle straps and the glossy khaki upper with the blue detail at the back, finishes it off beautifully. It is a shoe for both day and night, perfect choice!

5 Ways to Get PR samples to Review

I have been asked quite a few times, how I do get PR samples to review on the blog. So I decided to write a post, and I hope it informs many new bloggers, who may have a desire to write product reviews, but have no clue on how to get started with getting PRs to notice their blogs and send samples.

Mind Over Matter Balm Image

I received an offer to review a homemade hair oil in 2013. That was the first of many PR samples I received to review on the blog, and my blog was only few months old then. Since them, I have worked with quite a couple of PRs, and received various samples to review. Here are some ways you could get on the radar of the PRs:

Write Good Regular Content

This should go without saying, but unfortunately it still needs to be said. For you to get on the radar of the brands and their PRs, you need to have good content and your blog needs to be regularly updated. So if you content is fab but not regular, lets say you don’t post for weeks, surely no one may want to gift you a product. Same thing applies if you content is regular, say you post every day or every other day, but your posts are not good enough.

What is the definition of a good content I hear you ask? That is subjective, and it depends on your niche. So as long as your blog posts are well written, with nice pictures, and you are informing, entertaining or doing both, you should be fine.

Grow Your Following

Unfortunately no matter how good a blogger you are, or how fantastic your blog content is, it is not good enough for the PRs, if no one is reading your blog. It is all about the numbers most of the time, because they want maximum coverage for their clients. So work on increasing your following and think of ways you could get more people to read your blog.

Some ways to grow your following and increasing your views are:

Reading and commenting on other blogs.

Following relevant people on social media

Publishing great content

Run giveaways

Sharing and resharing your blog posts on social media during peak times.

Work on your Photography

I am still improving my photography, and not where I want to be at yet but I am a lot better than when I started. PRs want you to photograph the products they send you, and they want amazing shots. So for you to get on their radar, you should have amazing photos  or try to. Taking with your iPhone may not be good enough, you may need a DSLR, photo editing software, tripod, photo props and so on, but you don’t need them all to have excellent photos, but having them all won’t hurt either.

Also, PRs aside, most times your readers want to see the pictures on you or through your eyes. So if you are going to showcase a wig, I want to see it on you, if you are going to showcase a lipstick, I want to see a swatch and see it on your lips as well.

Follow PRs

Following PRs on social media is a good way to get their eyes on your blog, but you have to make sure you have done all you can do to make your blog worth reading, before you chase them. So following PRs on Twitter and Instagram is a good idea. Saying a cheeky hello won’t hurt as well. How do you know who is a PR? It is usually in their bio, a quick search on Twitter would bring a few up, and you can take it from there.

Review What You Have

So I saved the best tip of all for last. Start reviewing what you do have and those PRs in your niche will notice you.

Style Icon – Prince

This post is a day overdue. I meant to write the post yesterday but I had no words. I kept staring at the blank screen, hoping the words would flow, but it just didn’t, so I gave up, thought I would just mention the death of Prince, a music and style god, on social media, and that should do. Then I had a rethink, I saw so many inspiration blog posts and articles dedicated to the legend, and I just knew I had to write a post, or leave to regret it. So here is my tribute to Prince…..

Prince Rogers Nelson first caught my eye with the song Purple Rain. There was something about that track that did it for me, and the music video, with him and his band rocking and rolling with the guitar, and there was the lady in the band crying. It was so moving, I can never forget that music video. I have been loving Prince since then, and Purple Rain, is still one of my favourite tracks today. Apart from his amazing talent as a singer and songwriter, he is also a multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actor, and a style icon. His style had no filter, he was stylishly unapologetic with his big hair, frilly lace tops, hip-hugging bell-bottoms, and makeup. However, the best part of his style was that he owned it every time. I found his self confidence very inspiring.

Speaking of Fashion being Art yesterday; Prince was the definition of Art! He had Art written all over him.

It is sad to come to terms with the fact that we have lost another legend. He left us way too soon, but I know for a fact that just like Michael Jackson, Prince will never be forgotten. There can never ever be another Prince, but I do see a lot of him in Lenny Kravitz, Janelle Monae, and D’Angelo. Prince’s eccentric fashion sense inspired many, and his death will leave a lasting hole in the hearts of millions of people. He will continue to live through his music and we will never forget his amazing fashion sense. He changed the face of fashion and music, 2 of my greatest loves, forever.

Rest in peace Prince.
