Fashion and Style Police is Going Even More Personal

This October will make it 5 years of blogging. It has been 5 years of highs and lows, and I have learnt so much. I feel it is now time for me to take Fashion and Style Police to a different level, and blog slightly differently. Fashion and Style Police is Going Even More Personal!

So what are the changes to expect on Fashion and Style Police?

You may have noticed a slight change in the look of the blog. Well, I paid for the business package on WordPress. I contemplated doing that for some time now, but the price tag was a bit heavy. I decided to just do it last week for many reasons. With this business package, I have more control of the look of my blog. I have made a few changes thanks to some fantastic plugins I have installed. And I think this is a great way to start a new blogging chapter. I am so looking forward to the amazing opportunities that would surely come.

Apart from the new look of the blog, the content published on here will also change. I want them to be even more personal. So there would be lots of more photos and some blogging series would be scrapped. The Magazine Covers category would be scrapped, along with the Fashion Criminals category. All old posts in both categories would remain on the blog, but no new ones would be added, and I won’t be actively promoting the old blog posts in both categories but will be linking back to them where necessary.

I have contemplated stopping this blog series for months now, and I have finally decided to end it. Reading magazines and writing about them is one of my favourite things, but I believe it is time to give up the time and space for other projects.

I am also going to scrap the Who Wore It Better posts, as well as the Yay or Nay posts. Just like I stopped writing about Red Carpet Awards Fashion, I think it is time to give these up as well. However, the Beauty Muse and Style Icon categories would still stay on for now.

What’s New on Fashion and Style Police?

There shall be more outfit posts, product review posts and lifestyle posts. I hope to host more giveaways, so look out for those as well. There would be quite a few more fashion, beauty, self-employed/freelance and blogging tips posts as well. Basically, it is going to be the same blog you have been reading all these years but with a more personal touch. You would be reading and seeing a lot of what I am wearing, reading, trying, eating and what I am up to in general. So more travel and more of me than anything else! I will also be introducing some new blog series so look for those as well.

Cheers to the new month of August and the rest of the year. May it be a good one for us all. Have a lovely day and look out for my next post.

How to Look Stylish on a Tight Budget

Who doesn’t want to look trendy and chic? To get the perfect look means you need to make a considerable investment in your wardrobe. But with a very limited budget, it can be very tricky. So how do we look stylish on a tight budget then? The truth is that you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money to look good. With just a little investment and some tweaks, you can look just as stylish as someone who has spent hundreds or thousands of pounds.

The trick to looking stylish is not exactly in the money spent on the clothing, rather, it is how you carry the pieces and combine them to achieve the style that people envy. In this article, I’ll show you just how you can look stylish on a tight budget. You’ll soon see that it’s not as difficult as the fashion gurus make you think it is.

The little things matter

The best things come in small packages, they say.  Little additions can go a long way in making you look really stylish. A good weapon, is your choice of accessories. Lovely looking accessories like a beautiful necklace or a pair of earrings can upgrade your outfit. The best part is that there are so many accessories that are really inexpensive but can dazzle your outfit in a big way.

Go back to the basics

Some people tend think that trendy outfits have to be elaborate. That’s not the case. Basic clothing like a t-shirt, a pair of jeans or a simple pencil skirt can look just as stylish. And they don’t have to cost so much. A slogan tee and a pair of jeans look really trendy.

Shop during the off-season

Did you know that you could get quality clothing at a low price during the off-season? Who would have known that right? It may seem a little strange buying summer clothing during the winter, but if you want to enjoy some designer clothing at a low price then you could do a little off-season shopping and shop for the coming season.

Choose clothes that have a neutral palette

More often than not, the colour of your clothing can go a long way than you think. Neutral palette like beige, white and even black can make really stylish pieces. A lovely black dress, perfectly styled with your favourite jewelry could make you look extremely stylish even if you don’t spend a penny.

Get creative with layering

The way you mix and match your clothing is a pretty effective way to look stylish on a tight budget. Usually, there is really no need to buy new clothes from head to toe before you can look stylish. But if you combine the clothes you already have and invest a little to cover the difference then you have an amazing outfit.

Stick with stylish timeless pieces

You know those items of clothing that never go out of style no matter the year we’re in? Those are the type of clothing you should go for. You may even have quite a number of stylish clothing in your wardrobe already!

Find out those evergreen stylish pieces, like a pair of blue jeans and style it with a nice looking top that you can buy from a thrift store at a bargain. Put on the trendiest pair of heels you’ve got in your wardrobe and a set of matching jewelry. No one would ever know the difference.

6 Reasons Why Self Employment is Good for Mothers

As a mother, we are faced with so many responsibilities. Managing the home, our family and still making time for self-care can be really difficult if you’re employed at a 9-to-5. I can imagine it being more of a struggle to work a 9-5 and run my family, than to be self-employed, running my own business from the comfort of my home, along with my family. There are so many reasons why self employment is good for mothers.

If you’re still wondering if it’s a good idea to transition into being self-employed, then here are 6 reasons that will convince you to get started.

Flexible hours

One of the first things you begin to experience when you’re self-employed is that you can work at any time of the day. You’re not restricted to work at 9am and close at 5pm. You can set the time that is most convenient for you. You can also reschedule, especially when you have to be at your child’s school or you’re feeling under the weather.

Self Employment & Flexible Location

You know those days at work, where it feels as if the cubicle is choking you to death? Well, if you’re self-employed you can work anywhere you want to. You can work from the comfort of your home or work on the beach. The location is up to you. When you feel like you need a change of environment, it’s just as easy as taking your laptop and going to the place of your choice.

You are in control of the income you want to make

Being self-employed gives you the opportunity to determine how much you want to earn. In a 9-to-5 you are restricted to a fixed salary and before you can get a raise, you should have worked long and hard to be eligible for a raise. When you own your own business, you are the one who determines how much you want to earn.  There’s literally no limit to what you can earn so long as you put in the work.

Less stress

The beauty of self employment is the amount of stress that you get to cut out of your life. You don’t have to deal with the pressure from co-workers or an angry boss. Worrying about commuting would be a thing of the past, if you work from home. You don’t have to worry about that late evening meeting and how to still make it to your child’s recital. Let’s face it: working at a 9-to-5 can be overwhelming at times. When you’re self-employed you’re in more control of your life and your work.

Gives you the sense of independence

When you work in a 9-to-5 you’re limited on all sides. Everything you do is focused on pleasing the company you work for. Whether you like it or not, there will be days when you’ll be asked to do things that you would ordinarily not like to do. Just because you don’t want to lose your job, you’ll find yourself succumbing to the whims of your boss.

But in your own business, you are your own boss and you have no one to please but yourself. You do what you like and the decisions you take in your business will not challenge your authentic self.

Quality Time

The most important people in your life are your dear ones. Being able to just be a part of their lives and get the opportunity to impact their lives daily is precious. But when you are neck-deep in work from the office (which can get extremely demanding) you miss out on what’s important. Being self-employed gives you the freedom to be with your family and be a part of their lives. Everyday spent with the one’s you love makes your life richer and more worthwhile.

Self employment is the coolest way to go, but it regardless of the freedom and beauty of being self employed, it is not the best option for everyone, and may not be the best option for you. This way of life comes with its own issues. It takes a lot of determination, passion and disclipline to make it work.
