Would you Still Use Your Hairdresser if They Weren’t Insured

Diane was a renowned hairdresser in Slough, everybody loved to go to her beauty shop for the most beautiful hair tints. From beach blonde sun streaks to locks with deep purple tinges, she was a maven with hair colours. One day, an apprentice accidentally used the wrong shampoo on a customer’s hair. The woman who usually preferred organic products, had an immediate reaction to the synthetic dye; it was a complete disaster.  Unfortunately for Diane, she had no form of insurance cover. The customer was left to pay for her own medical bills and is now considering a lawsuit for negligence.

Diane may be an expert, but professional negligence is almost unforgiveable. As a customer would you still patronise a beauty salon without hairdresser insurance?

When you visit a new salon for the first time, it is advisable to inquire from the owner whether they have insurance cover in place. Otherwise, you may be having hair treatments done at your own risk.

For hairdressers, it is imperative to protect your customers and your business by taking a number of insurance coverages available.
Here are some shop insurance covers for Hairdressers and Barbers:

You can get a standard business insurance policy, which includes public liability, employer’s liability and professional indemnity. As a hairdressing salon owner, you shouldn’t have to get blanket cover because another store is doing so.

No two salons are the same. Some providers offer specific shop insurance coverage.

1.    General Liability Insurance

This is an important policy for hairdressing salons and shop owners for the products sold and the nature of the environment you operate in. There is likelihood of risk exposure you should be prepared to handle. It covers your customers too. Some examples include:
–    “Slip and Fall” Insurance
–    Products Liability
–    Personal Injury

2.    Commercial Property Insurance

This is often a requirement for hairdressing salon owners, usually by their landlord or financer of the business. It covers property damage on your business premises.
–    Furnishings
–    Equipment
–    Tools
–    Products

3.    Professional Liability Insurance

This insurance protects business owners from third-party claims related to their professional services. For example, if something goes wrong at your salon, like a professional blunder or act of negligence – you can make a claim for professional liability.

4.    Employers Liability Insurance

You can’t guarantee the professionalism or precautionary practices of your employees every time, so an employer’s liability insurance protects you from any incident.
Does your Hairdresser have an insurance cover? What would you do if you were Diane?

How to make your make-up stay on all day

Black Beauty Image

There’s nothing as upsetting as spending hours getting your makeup just right only for it to fade away after a couple of hours. I find it so annoying.
Makeup helps to enhance your beauty but when your makeup fades or melts away during the day, its aim is defeated.
Here are some things you can do to make your makeup stay on all day:
1.    Exfoliate regularly
Makeup lasts longer when your face is smooth. This is because a smooth skin allows you to apply makeup evenly. The presence of dead skin cells can make your face rough. Exfoliation helps to clear away dead skin from your face, leaving it silky smooth. Exfoliate once or twice a week using a gentle scrub. A good face mask should be used at least once a week (more on face masks in my upcoming product review post).
2.    Cleanse your skin
Oily skin makes it difficult for the makeup to stay on longer. Using a gentle cleanser and a cotton ball, thoroughly cleanse your whole face. Do not neglect your neck. The cleanser will rid your skin of dirt, grime and oil right to the pores of your skin.
3.    Apply moisturizer correctly
After cleansing your skin, applying a moisturizer will keep your skin from staying dry and allow the makeup to be easily applied. When applying moisturizer, make sure you pick an oil-free moisturizer that is light weight. A moisturizer that contains SPF to protect your skin from the sun is a bonus. Apply a thin layer of moisturizer and allow it to sink into your skin.
4.    Apply a primer
A good primer helps to seal in the moisturizer and fill in the pores to give your skin a smooth even surface. A primer prevents your makeup from being absorbed in your skin. This will make your makeup last longer.
5.    Choose quality products
Using low quality products is another reason why your makeup does not last long. Quality products contain substances that will not only take care of your skin but also ensure your makeup lasts longer too. From my experience, the more expensive the beauty product, the longer it stays on. I find MAC lipsticks and powder stay on for ages, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is the best in the market, English Mineral Makeup Kabuki Brushes are fab for blending, and I love the No 7 Airbrush Away Primer, it creates an amazing foundation.
6.    Layer your makeup
Makeup that is caked up on your face makes the makeup crumble in the creases. The right way to apply your makeup is to apply it one thin layer after another. This will make your makeup stay longer on your skin and creates a more natural look. This rule on layering doesn’t only apply to your skin but to your lips as well. Apply lipstick one thin layer at a time.
7.    Set the makeup with powder
After applying your makeup, set it in with some translucent powder. The powder will make your makeup smooth and get rid of excess oil from your skin. Make sure you give special attention to your under eyes by lightly brushing some powder there. The powder will seal up your makeup.
8.    Finish off with makeup spray
Makeup spray is a special spray that contains substances that will help seal the makeup in place and prevent it from melting away. It also helps to even out your makeup and make it look like natural skin.

Fashion Disaster SOS

autumn-look-image

Fashion disasters can happen to the most stylish of us. Most times, it is completely out of hands, and there is nothing we could have done to stop the disaster from happening. I have experience quite a few fashion disasters in my lifetime already; a zip giving way, a broken heel, torn tights, and so many others. The annoying part of these fashion disasters is that they happen in the most awkward places. My heel broke at work once, I had to walk around bare feet until I got spare flats from a co-worker. My zip gave way at a party once, on the dancing floor, imagine that? Thankfully, not many people noticed but it was still embarrassing.

We can’t always avoid these fashion disasters but we can solve them quickly. Here are some fashion disaster SOS that you may find useful while out and about –

Broken Heel

If your high heel snaps into 2, coat 1 piece with a glue such as Shoe Goo Glue, at the site of the break and try to attach the other section. Also, stay off your feet as much as you can until you can change into another pair of shoes. Always safe to carry a pair of flats in your bag or leave in your car when you are rocking high heels. You never know when you might need it.

Red Wine Stain

Soda water is the best thing to use to get rid of a red wine stain on a white cotton dress. Gently sponging off a red wine stain with soda water would get the stain off.

Dull Shoes

Smear a tiny amount of petroleum jelly over your shoes. It would give your dull shoes a shine.

Chewing Gum Stain

Get rid of the chewing gum with a knife, hold an ice-cube over the stain until it hardens. This will enable you scrape off the excess gum. Then sponge the area with hot water. This will remove the chewing gum stain completely.

Stubborn Zips

If a zipper won’t budge for whatever reason, run a leap pencil along the teeth of the zip. If that doesn’t work, then rub a bar of soap or candle wax onto the problem area. With a little manipulation, the zipper should come unstuck.

Rain Marks on Suede

Use a nail file or rough pencil eraser to gently get rid of rain marks on a suede garment.

Loose Button

Dot the top of a loose button with a clear nail polish to stop the threads from loosening further and the button from falling off.
